Wind noice and what sealant to use

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My brother rocked up at the weekend in the 56 plate vRS he's just bought. It would appear me constantly going on about mine has made him get one too.

On going for a drive I noticed a fair amount of wind noise. He didn't say anything but it was certainly noisier than my own.

There have been a few threads on here about it and the number one fix seems to be adding some extra sealant around the window rubbers - most people seem to say this fixes the issue perfectly.

I'm more than happy to give this a go but was wondering what sealant I should be using? Where can I get some from?

Don't want to use the wrong kind of thing and cause damage to my brother's new car.

Cheers.

Window sealant? Im sick of people asking if the door is open, I put it down to bad alignment and bad door seals (it is a Skoda after all). I imagine if you replace the seals it would make it better...

I wouldn't know where to start replacing all the seals. However as for getting a small sealant gun and running it around between the "rubbers" and the window that looks easier and some reports here that solves the issue.

On my car (2011 as detailed below) I don't get the noise. However others with a similar aged car do - just seems to be luck of the draw I guess.

It's nothing to do with the door seals, or alignment of the doors. Its the seals around the rear door quarter light. The non moving small window that is. I had exactly the same issue on my old 55 octavia vrs, and have the same issue to sort on my friends 04 2.0 tdi. Obviously the design is different on the estate cars, so this only effects the hatchback models. You'll want to get some standard all purpose black silicone sealant from b&q or somewhere like that. You'll be able to clean up any overrun, but black is best to blend into the rubber seal just incase! Do exactly what this guy says and it'll sort the problem.
