MDI for Amundsen +

Featured Replies

Hi

Can someone tell me if this is all I need to fit an MDI to my Amundsen. I realise this comes with a cage which I wont use but it is on a special at the moment making it the same price as the version without a cage. I also realise this is the VW version rather than the Skoda but for some reason it is cheaper than the Skoda version and both are listed as being suitable for the Skoda Amindsen Unit.

Thanks

Personally wouldnt waste the money. I thought i was really going to miss MDI having had it on my last two cars and becoming rather dependant on it; i never had CDs in my car and just literally put all the music I own on an iPod.

My BL turned up and very quickly dispelled any worries I had. The SD slot pretty much does the same thing and allows you to store up to 32Gb of music; way more than enough for me. I find the soubd quality generally better (im sure sound quality was degraded through the MDI interface to some limited degree) and track changes and searches are much snappier.

Best part....the Amundsen + can decode raw AAC files so I could copy all my iTunes music straight to a card and hey presto it plays....dont think you can do that with a Columbus.....or listen to digital radio.......or cheaply and easily install OEM Bluetooth too.

Its such a good unit (in fact im still blown away by how good the sound is for a basic factory system) that i dont think the lack of MDI is anything to worry about.

Loving the sd slot too but 32gb is just not enough lol. There is always an album I decide I want to listen to that I haven't copied over.

Didn't realise it could do aac! I wastes hours converting to mp3! Ahhhh!

You got Bluetooth on yours too? Why noy stick another 32Gb card in your phone and stream half your music over bluetooth audio? I was amazed at the quality and thanks to full A2DP you still get track names, counter and ability to skip and rew/ff providing your phone supports it. Thats what id do personally :-D

I have a 64gb in the phone lol. I am a total tech geek and if the unit has the ability to have my 250gb library on it I want that! Totally pointless but I just have to have it lol.

Bluetooth connection is very good though.

You need the loom, the MDI (without cage) and the adapter cable (IPOD, USB etc). It will then need to be enabled in VCDS (vagcom). I have it in my Blackline with the IPOD hidden in the ashtray works OK as I don't take the IPOD out very often.

Thanks. Didn't realise it needed to be enabled as well. How easy is it to fit?

The quadlock is a bit of a pain but not too bad with the top box taken out. There is enough room behind the comfort controls to hide the MDI module and feed IPOD cable into the ashtray (does stop the door opening fully). The factory fit (had it on my old VRs) is done in the glove box (hole cutout with extension cable). There are some posts on here showing what others have done.
