So today I was in a little quandary.

I had just picked up the Demo R8 from another branch and was on my way back cross country when I came up behind a Funeral precession , 2 hearses and 2 following cars doing around 25 mph in a NSL area.

Now the road straightens for a good 3/4 mile and was clear,

Now with the R8 in sport mode it is a little loud and I wasn't shaw weather to overtake or not, not wanting to be disrespectful.

In the end, I just floored it and went, and waved a sorry as I went passed.

Sorry, but that's bad manners to blast past a funeral cortege.

Driving an Audi is effecting you already. ;)

Personally I'd have been more considerate.

Why?

Not being disrespectful, but why is it bad manners? The driver didn't cut the funeral procession up. Waved to acknowledge they were overtaking, and got out of the way.

If I were a family member of the deceased, I would be more focused on a good send off, than a car safely and quickly overtaking the hearse.

I remember when I was following the hearse carrying my mum and it was overtaken twice. I remember thinking 'you f***ing inconsiderate ****!' I'd have waited.

Another vote for waited. Imagine if the deceased died in a car accident and survivors of said accident were in one of the cars following.

Just to clarify, because this suggests you didn't want to be disrespectful but you still left it sport mode?

That's the one that makes the exhaust note louder isn't it?

So you could have taken it out of sport mode so it was quieter, which doesn't make sense if you really didn't want to be disrespectful and left sport mode on.

Which would make me wonder if you felt bad about it and so posted here for the benefit of you conscience. :)

I do see where you're coming from BossFox. If the OP had been blasting the horn, tailgating, flashing lights etc, I would think knob!

Sometimes it's best to get past a situation, before frustration sets in. :)

I know I should of possible followed but it was another 10 miles to the crem,

The road is a single carriageway A road that goes cross country so not in town. ( not that that is an excus )

Overtaken with less enthusiasm? :)

Sort of correct, left in sport mode there is a little more burble at low revs, once you rev higher the noise difference is hard to notice. It also puts it in to Dynamic mode on the suspension.

So if it was out of Sport mode, under acceleration the noise would not have been much difference, I however short shift with the paddles to try and keep the noise down, whilst clearing and getting back onto my side of the road as quickly as possible.

Sorry, I thought it opened the extra valve in the exhaust, for a deeper note through the rev range. :)

In the end, I just floored it and went, and waved a sorry as I went passed.

Personally I think you answered yourself there. By 'waving a sorry' you knew you were (morally) in the wrong.

Correct, yes but I only really notice it at low revs that it makes a difference, once you get higher up the rev range, with all the noise that high revs bring with it it's hard to tell,

Tricky one, I mean I 110% understand the replies saying you should have waited and been patient BUT 25mph on a national limit road for 10 miles would cause traffic chaos round here. For a mile or 2 no doubt I'd have waited, but 10? It'd take like . . half hour. But then how would I/you know they were not turning off before . . . . . hummmmmm.

When being disrespectful, and lets face it, we all are from time to time, just remember that there are people out there that are prepared to do rather nasty things to people that upset them.

When my time comes, the more people that overtake me the better, if any V8's go past I hope they give it some beans. Want people to celebrate my life not mourn my passing, I voted yes, would pass as safely and quietly as possible.

I would haven't had passed. If you were worried about the noise then you could have dropped back a little.

Good point, well made.

Overtake and keep the revs down, and don't fly past. And 25mph is far too slow for a NSL anyway they should be doing more like 40/45 mph if the distance to the crem was so far.

Think about it another way if you were driving a police car would you pass it when not going on a call. I think the answer would be NO because it would effect the way people think about the police no respect etc, so you would in effect be bringing the service down. Then again its whats been stated allready its called RESPECT. A thing thats gradualy disapearing from society. Having said that its a personal thing if you feel happy doing it go for it, but you must have had a twing of guilt for asking the question.

I'd have overtaken and given them a quick dixie horn salute*

*No I wouldn't, I'd have been patient and thought better of myself for it :sun:
