140CR TDI, remap advice

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have long been toying with the idea of remapping my Superb 140CR. Maybe I should have bought the 170CR, but I didn't...

1. The car is still in warranty (and will be for another 3 years!), so should I leave it until afterwards? I also have another 3 years of free servicing so if the dealer 'finds out' it has been remapped will I have to say bye bye to these two advantages?

2. Realistically, what can I expect to achieve having remapped the car? What sort of bhp, torque, fuel consumption, etc?

3. Has anyone done it to their car and what is your experience?

4. I presume remapping is like most other things...various levels of work quality and thus price. How much will a good quality remap be? I don't want a botch job.

Thanks in advance for your tips!

Visit shark performance or send them a pm. They get really good reviews for there remaps. A shark remap will take the 140 to about 180bhp. Plus they also offer an sts unit which removes the map they put on so that when u take your car for servicing / updates they wont clear the remap from the ecu.

Had a 140PD remap by Shark, 70k no problems, expect 180BHP and 2-4 MPG more, you will notice the difference, Shark used to do special offers every now then so that would be the best time to go for one (if you can wait), regular cost £499.

My 18TSi has been remapped by Shark as well

My understanding is that whilst you can remap the CR engine you can't use the sts device to do it. There is hardware encryption on the ecu that needs to be physically bypassed and would be visible if inspected. With the PDs they don't have this kind of protection so the STS can be used. I had my 105PD engine remapped by W8 Performance and that was what he told me.

In regards to warranty this topic had been widely discussed on this forum. but in the end it depends on whether the dealer can prove any warranty claim was caused by the remap or if they are feeling in a good mood that day.

Hope this helps?

Thanks for all of the info. I'm due a service in 2500km so will ask the dealer whether the remap would be an issue. The salesman didn't seem to see there being an issue when I bought the car last May.
