Shark power delivery

Featured Replies

Hi - I'm looking at getting a remap for MkII Octavia vRS (petrol)

I've searched the forums and found many glowing reviews of the Shark remaps, but couldn't seem to find specifics of power delivery. I'm interested to know if it's smooth or agressive, spikey delivery of power and torque

My Focus ST was shovelling out ~280bhp and ~400nM but was quite spikey delivery and I'd prefer something a little smoother now. Also the huge torque resulted eventually in some clutch issues. Obviously clutch issues will be related to driving style, etc, but wondered if anyone has had similar issue in their Shark remapped Octavia....?

Thanks in advance :)

I went into shark on friday to see Ben as my mate is having a dyno run today plus possible remap and im thinking of doing the same. They showed me a few print out graphs with both shark map and original / competitors map overlay. Assuming they are real which i have no reason to beleive there not then it was very clear that the shark map is a very smooth progressive curve and the competitors are very peeky. Which i think is the reason they tend not to quote headline bhp figures. Its more about how the car feels under acceleration than a peek power output. Its no good having a car that has a peek that is 260bhp if the rest of the rev range is littered with dips in power.

i Think they will advise although can't speak for them that any remap will have an adverse effect on clutch longevity. Stands to reason more power means the material will be worn faster i would say.

Cheers Scribbler - that's kind of what I was hoping. I agree - headline power figures are misleading and I'm not interested in getting the highest power figures, but the most progressive and useable map

Yeah, of course any re-map will put extra strain on clutch (and turbo) - was really wondering if there were any known problems/experiences and whether people tended to stick with the standard clutch with a Shark remap (stage 1), or if upgrading was deemed necessary

Although I've not dyno'd the roomster the on road power delivery is silky smooth. Highly recommended.

that's what i wanted to hear :)

i think it will have to be shark judging by all the good reviews on here!

The one I used to have on my Fabia vRS was very smooth. They are reknowned on this site for producing maps that look after your engine and clutch

great, thanks. i think in hind sight i would have got a different map on my focus, so learnt my lesson now!

Ive had the Shark stage 1, 2 & 3 on the TFSI.

the stage 1 & 2 were excellent with smooth power delivery

thanks - very useful to see the curves

Had you been a little nearer, you could have tested my TFSI to see what you thought ;)

I had a shark map on my ibiza 1.8t k04 and it was awesome ....smooth but also a shed load of torque and improved mpg :-/

  • 1 month later...

I had revo stage 1 on my old tsi vRS and it was smooth. Not a huge fan of revo as a company though but their maps are good.

Ive had 3 Revo maps on the petrol 2 litre VRS and after discovering Sharks ability in ECU tuning I'd never go back! It's smooth, more drive able so quicker in the real world and easier on the drivetrain. :)

The difference I notice is that when you get to 3000rpm the car still pulls. It just keeps going so you don't have to change gear as soon.
