Did the one you have retain the ASV? What was the problem with it?

  • Interesting. I've never spotted any issues with fitment on the BKD. You got a photo to illustrate, out of interest?

  • Will take one

I'd rather not go into it on the forum to be honest. But I'll summarise;

The following were a problem: fit for purpose, design, quality, ability to accept and deal with mistakes, lack of ability to correctly deal with customers.

Can someone measure their standard EGR valve on a PD140 or 170 please? I'm betting it's closer to 100mm than 70.

I compared mine before fitting and from memory where pretty much the same size.

Put it this way, there wasn't a 30mm difference.

If I added 30mm to mine it takes it past the majority of the ASV, so by the time I would have fitted the ASV to the end I don't see how the intercooler pipe would fit on easily. Also, the one bolt that goes through ASV and EGR would be a bit on the short side .........

Just had a look at the Allard one and it states BKD only........

Just had a look at EGRs and the BKD one does not fit a BMN from what I can see.

The plot thickens

Seems the BKD EGR is vacuum actuated, and the BMN is electronic, unless I am mistaken.

Not too surprised there would be a different part required for PD140 and PD170 application. There is different EGR control between BKD and BMN, I know that much.

But darkside say it is suitable for both......

Which in a way it is, as it physically fits, as long as you don't want to change your oil filter LOL

Just thought I'd drop an update onto this thread to let everyone know the progress so far.

Well, the brakes are on after a right load of faffing about on ebay (EBC grooved and dimpled 312mm on the fronts, standard size on the rear, RedStuff pads all round) and bloody hell, it hasn't half made a difference. I'm still braking far too early for junctions - the speed just seems to vanish without the brakes being 'grabby' and the single time I've had to mash the middle pedal since having them fitted the ABS kicked in v quickly on a bone dry road, it was a struggle to do that with the old brakes believe me ! The grooved brakes do make a weird 'swooshing' noise as you brake though, which I'm still undecided on. The redstuff pads DID squeal initially, as someone else mentioned on this forum, but now they're bedded in they're fine.

One question though - are grooved discs functionally or just aesthetically directional, because if they are better rotating in the direction of travel (the way I would have fitted them personally) then my tame grease monkey has fitted them the wrong way round.

The suspension kit is now sat next to me; went with the Bilstein B12 kit in the end (care of DPM performance), but my flippin mechanic told me the wrong strut diameter initially, so I ended up with 50mm struts instead of 55mm. Amazingly, DPM have managed to sort a return with no restocking fee, so I'm not too out of pocket.

The suspension goes on next week, followed closely by a 4 wheel alignment at http://www.wheel-ali...anchester.co.uk (interested to hear anyones opinion on them btw) and then I just have to nurse my poorly turbo for another month until the guys at darkside put the hard intercooler pipe kit, EGR delete and 230BHP budget turbo kit on - I can hardly wait !

A few clues here seems both are acceptable although facing back is the majority http://www.google.co...iw=1680&bih=947

Just to follow up on the subject of the EGR delete fitment on the PD170. I asked DS about it and they said it should be the same as stock. I took the car in for an oil change there this morning and they managed to do the filter without any bother, so I guess I must be wrong and forgot just how tight it is on the 170.

Actually, I should also commend Darkside for a very quick service this morning. Called in on my way to work and was at work for 9:!5.
