Attention, Traffic Problem

Featured Replies

For some reason my Amundsen+ unit has started announcing that there is a traffic problem.

It has only started doing this in the last few days and does not give any further info.

I have not always had a route set and have been listening to the radio at the time.

One time I was reversing onto my driveway when it suddenly made me jump by announcing 'ATTENTION,TRAFFIC PROBLEM'.

When I pressed the TMC button there were no reports showing on the screen.

Another time it was quite amusing as I was on my way to Wales and had just joined the traffic approaching the M4/M5 junction so I already knew about the traffic.

I'm getting the same, but just like you don't know how to interrogate the satnav to find out where the hold up is!

TMC depends upon messages being transmitted via the radio signals alongside the actual broadcast.

Not sure on the Amundsen, but on the Columbus you can set it to make announcements across the whole country or just those on / near your planned route.

It's not infallible as it relies upon messages being broadcast with the correct information and removed at appropriate times.

Can't believe anyone has that annoying voice switched ON?!

I leave mine off permanently, listen to music and just watch the Maxidot screen for turns.

Makes it a much more pleasant journey..............instead of constantly hearing "your route is being recalculated" all the frigging time..........if you're going to do it, just do it, DON'T KEEP TELLING ME!!

(glad I got that off my chest)

Still not as good as "Continue along this road for a long time"..............how long ??

A long time! Like she said...

Still not as good as "Continue along this road for a long time"..............how long ??

I hear ya, but at least that's not as bad as "Continue along this road for a long time..................erm, not that long, please turn around".

:)

Mine has the annoying habit of telling me about the traffic problem whilst I have been stuck in the traffic for 5 mins or so, not really much I can do about it then lol.

It is only as good as the information it recieves from the TMC, be nice if this was more accurate :)

I remember the first time I heard that - I had to ask the wife to make sure I hadn't imagined it. I think there is another classic on a motorway - "turn left...soon". Not quite as useful a set-up as the Tom Tom that I've been used to :giggle: but it did give us hours of amusement on the long journey to visit relatives.

Both my wife and my son laugh when she says this "Continue along this road for a long time"

Love it. Your destination is around here......... Somewhere! Good luck

I'll stick with NatNat (the wife)

It's the 'pregnant' pause between her saying '"this road for" and "a long time" that makes me laugh!

It seems to be anything over 7 miles that counts as 'a long time'.

My Columbus has quite often told me "Your route has been altered because of current traffic situations....." or similar.

More than once I've ignored this and more than once I've ended up in stationary traffic.

I do trust it when it says this to me.

On my old Octy i used Tom Tom live which was very accurate voiced by Homer Simpson and on a trip of over 100 miles i used both to measure accuracy there was only a couple of minutes difference on the arrival time most of the way. But at the end of the journey i took the Tom Tom out , No Way was i leaving Homer alone with the Amundsen lady " For a long time '' !

+1. We both love it!

One time I was reversing onto my driveway when it suddenly made me jump by announcing 'ATTENTION,TRAFFIC PROBLEM'.

Response in our car when something like this happens is a chorus of 'ATTENTION, SAT NAV PROBLEM!'
