Electric windows

Featured Replies

I have a Fabia II where both front electric windows don't work. The fuse seems ok. There is not a click or any sound when operating the buttons, any idea as to what could be wrong? I don't know if they stopped working at the same time.

I asked the local Skoda shop, but they will start charging just to find the error.

check all fuses - no. 11, 51, 52.

If they are ok - disconnect the minus from car battery, and fit it back after while. Check the windows. IF they still wont work, go to the service point.

Ok, I'll try that. Will disconnecting the battery affect anything else?

Have you tried holding down the unlock button on the remote?

If you hold it down for more than a few seconds, it does the VAG thing of lowering all the windows, as well as unlocking (to cool a hot car). Holding the lock button reverses this.

If that works, you know it is something to do with the in car buttons.

My passenger window froze in the down position once and I couldn't work it - this closed the window and it reset itself after I came back to the car and turned on ignition.

I checked all fuses with a multi meter and they seem fine. However, as i put back number 52 there was a sound from the motor in the right side (car is left hand drive). The right side motor actually works now, but ONLY when operated from the passengers switch. The two switches on the driver side still don't work at all. Could it be a short circuit in the wiring/buttons on the driver side?

Fuse number 11 seems to be related to the power mirrors, and they have always worked.

Holding down the buttons on the remote doesn't roll down any of the windows (rear are manual).

Also, I heard something about a comfort/convenience module that handles the windows amongst other things, could that be the culprit? But shouldn't the shop have read that error out on the computer?

I had a somewhat similar problem with my Octavia earlier this year, where both windows motor and central lock didn't work in the right rear door. It was ultimately fixed by banging really hard on the driver side inside doorhandle (where all the buttons are).

Disocnnect the battery as I said. It will not affect anything. After power back - turn on the engine, and let it work for couple of minutes. If this will not help, you should check for faults with VCDS. It seems that there is no connection between the switches and car computer.
