Saving the paint!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

As some of the Kent Members know I also own an Alfa Romeo 156 2.5 V6 in Black.

I purchased it with the intention of fixing it up and selling it on at a (small) profit. So in my week off I decided to give it a good wash and polish to get her ready to be sold.

now the problem is that as with most Alfa 156's the lacquer tends to flake off after a few years, after a good wash today I found its started to happen to the boot area... this stands out like a saw thumb on a black car!

plus the paint on the front bonnet and wings is incredibly rough. even after using a fair bit of car polish (just a bit of autoglym), I cant smooth the roughness out.

I also found the polish was also getting trapped in the little pin sized holes/chips in the paint. :wall:

Ill put some photos up tomorrow.

But does anyone have any suggestions on how i could fix this?

You could try and clay bar the car to see if there is any contamination sitting on the surface such as tar- quite difficult to see on a black car. There is a wealth of info onhow to etc on the detailing world forum. Might be worth a quick read but be prepared for a new obsession!!
