Can I just whack on a set of 18"s?

Featured Replies

Simple question from a simple forum member!

I've got 17" alloys on my OCTII right now, but can I replace those with 18" alloys without any problems/adjustments?

Cheers in advance

Danny

No, You need to buy some 18's first

You might also want to talk to your insurers...

Like anything: you want bigger, you need more money!

Not always true, most insurers are only intrested if its not a manufacturers extra... i.e if your fitting the standard 18inch vrs neptunes... they wont care... mine certainly didnt (admiral).

A simple answer to a simple question - "Yes". Standard vRS wheels (Neptunes) on my vRS are 7.5J x 18, ET51, centre bore 57.1mm, PCD 5x112, and the tyres are 225/40/18s. You can get away with an offset (ET) within a few millimetres of 51. Find yourself a set of wheels with that fitment and tyre size and you're good to go (and to tell your insurer...)

You will be fine with 18x8.5 ET45 and 225 tyres.

My insurer only cared if he wheels were worth more than £500.

I like Brentacre, They dont care with wheels, Well they do, they like to get them on the policy so i can claim them back, but no change to my premium as they dont affect BHP :)

As Julie mentioned, don't forget to get 18" tyres :-)

Cheers for the advice people. I'll give the insurance company a call later and see what they say about a potential cost increase (for this and a remap). I'll probably wait til later in the year and replace the alloys at the same time that tyres need changing too, to get the most out of those I shelled out for not so long ago!
