problem after remap

Featured Replies

Hi there, Got a technical question for you's. Got the vrs mapped on moblnday and when i 1st started it and drove away it felt exactly the same but thought nothing of it as i'v never had a car mapped before. So went to the petrol station for a drink and came out started and the car was totally different! Pulled like a totaly different car! Then got a bit further up the road after i got stuck in traffic and same again it felt like the map had been removed. Turned the car off and back on and map re appeared and pulled like a different car again. Anyway to cut story short this keeps happening so i rang the company i had it mapped at and they said either dirty/broke maf or dirty/broke or in need of a uprated (3 bar) map sensor. When the lad reset my airbag light with vcds for me at the same time he ran a system scan and it came back with no faults. i'v know of another octavia vrs mapped by the same company and they hadnt had to change the map sensor. i dont know if it makes any difference at all but mines a 51 plate and my mates was a 05.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Sounds like its going into limp need to check codes and get back to them to check as It was fine pre map !!

Its not limp mode as i still pulls but only like it did with the decat and panel filter.

If i'm right llimp mode restricts the power right down doesnt it?

Easiest way to tell when it comes to the MAF is to unplug it. It nothing changes then you know its duff! But if it was that, it would run lumpy, not intermittent.

TBH its either something like the N75 failed, or you have a duff map.

Would the n75 not stop it from running like a mapped car all the time? its like a generic map for that engine if that makes any sense? As in they dont map it on rollers or live mapped on the road its just the same map they put on all vags with that engine. A mate of mine had no bother with his vrs when he had his mapped at said company and a couple of other lads i know speak highly of them. One of which has had around 4/5 cars mapped through them. Also if my car was on vcds when i was driving it to show the mapping company what happens would it show anything up without putting the eml on?

Bump. I think my last post makes sense. Lol.

Bit of update on this. Gave the MAF a good clean with halfords electrical contact cleaner following the guide on here and waited for it to dry off then took it for a blast and it was a totally different car! So i thought all was well untill i left to do my 16 mile drive to work and exactly the same. Is it just me or does this sound like the MAF?

sounds like limp mode, probably getting an over boost code now.

It doesnt seem to be reducing it down enough to be limp mode unless there is 2 types of limp mode is there? When it goes different its just like driving it before the map was put on.

When i disconnected my maf the other day to rule out that as a fault with my car, it was like driving the car before it was remapped soon as i connected the maf back up and restarted the car it was back to its remapped state. Youll know when its in limp mode your car will feel like a 1.6 compared lol

Ah riht. I'm going to give that a go tonight on my way home from work if i remember to disconnect the MAF before jumping the car. its got my head battered. At the minute it feels like i'v gave some bloke 200 notes to sit and talk to me in the car for 45 minutes. Lol

I had this for ages on my 1.8T Elegance after a remap - not going in limp mode exactly, but sometimes felt smooth and quick, and other times bog standard. I tried new DV, throttle body clean, removed MAF, all with the same result - no difference.

Then I changed the N75 valve. Happy days. Pulled like a train every time.

A remap will often cause a weaknesss to become a problem, but for a £60 part it was back to happy motoring.

Ah right. I'm glad that someone else has had this problem also! Is it hard to just do away with the n75? Also does it cost much to do?

It says above it was £60. Why not just take it back for a refund and get a proper company to map it?

Theres nothing actually wrong with there maps. i'v drove another one the same shape and was totally fine. i'v got a mate giving me a n75 valve to see if that sorts it so its not actually costing anything. Cant you remove the n75 altogether like you can on tbe 1.8 20vt engines in the ibizas the same age? If this dont work i'll get the standard map put back on and just use it standard

TBH, I did the same as you. got an ok map, but if I had spent a little more then I could of gone to R-tech, got mega power to a safe limit by great guys and had all the issues you have checked!

Tbh i wasnt too fussed on getting too much power as like you will know yourself the car just spins in 1st 2nd and 3rd in the wet off an ok map anyway so getting even more power would make it even more unuseable. Imo its the biggest let down of these cars.

Got a bit of an update about the car. I unplugged the MAF for part of my drive home from work and when i unplugged it while the engine was running the revs never flackered a bit but put the eml on and still gave me the same problem so plugged it back reset the eml and dstill done the same. Going to hopefully be getting the n75 off my friend this weekend.
