Columbus Into 2006 vRS - Whats Needed?

Featured Replies

Evening all.

Hopefully picking up a Columbus this weekend. Fitting it all etc isn't a problem but I'm unsure what (if any) coding I'll need to do via VCDS? I'm assuming running a Columbus in a 2006 car is fine? I have an upgraded gateway already so thats not a problem.

And I'm sure this will have been asked before but I've searched and can't find the answers! Car doesn't have Maxidot by the way.

Cheers

Dave

The answers are there...

A new gateway or modified firmware to avoid battery drain (you have this covered);

Most people need a new fascia (from £5 for a black one to £70 for a silver one);

Most find coding is needed to get all functions working correctly;

Some put in an aerial 'splitter' so one aerial cable goes to both aerial inputs;

A few (me) go to the hassle of fitting two new rear window aerials;

A GPS antenna from eBay will be needed if not supplied;

A code for your old stereo before you remove it (only if you intend to sell it on - if not the car remembers the code);

About 30-40 minutes of time (less on subsequent removals);

Go to 19 - CAN Gateway & tick 46 (?)- Navigation. Exit & save.

Go to Navigation or Radio (changes in one appear in the other) and go through the options in the menus & tick boxes.

Only one that really causes problems is the 'Sound System' drop down list. Start with 'No sound system' (unless you know you have) and go from there.

As mods & VCDS go its pretty straight forward AFAIR.

Nothing else KB? Sounds relatively straight forward. So theres no harm in fitting it and driving with it etc before doing the VCDS bits? Obviously I'm guessing I won't be able to use the nav etc?

Might need to drop a line to my tame VCDS man :hi:

It was a pretty easy mod to be honest.

Having it in and driving with it won't cause any harm (not that I know of) but it may not function fully until it is fully coded.

Not sure where you are, but if you are near Hereford / Worcester I can help out with fitting and VCDS.
