Featured Replies

Help i am tearing my hair out now.

I haave just spent about 40 minutes looking at posts on strut braces, and am all frustrated now.

Front Upper brace from Seat 6L0071710 - GBP42.54

Does this need bolts, if so what are the part numbers of the bits I need.

Do I need to drill into the turrets?

Sill it need a engin bay mods/ pipework moves to fit.

Front Lower brace

Do Seat do one and if so what are the part numbers?

Does it need bolts and if so what are the part numbers?

Does it foul any of the bottom end of the engine at all.

Rear upper Brace

I dont think Seat do one, but I saw a post on here about someone making ghem for members. I cant for fksakes find the post.

As far as I know, Seat only do a front upper one for the Ibiza and you just use the existing bolts and holes.

I have a Weicher Sports lower front one which is currently for sale and has never been on my car .... apparently it fits but can knock on the "engine" ... Faboka runs one on his vRS so he may be more help....

Carjackedmike was doing the adjustable rear strut brace (here) but I've not heard of a rear lower brace.

AAT also do a full complement of braces, I think but you lose more of your boot with their rear upper one....

Chris

The front upper one requires no drilling, screws etc, look for the article in the review section.

The front lower one is a funny one, apparently pretty much all of them knock against the engine which is not only annoying but im guessing could potentially damage your car. I am getting a different one (OMP) fitted by JBS when it arrives (no time soon by the looks of things :(), and will report my findings as and when. Apparently though the benefit is it compliments the front upper very nicely and makes a dramatic difference.

The rear upper as Chris says is made by AAT however I have heard some dodgy things about AAT and I don't believe they are welcome on Briskoda at the moment. The alternative and IMO the best one is the adjustable rear strut brace by Carjacked Mike (post above), it really doesn't take up much room, and can easily be removed if necessary and it looks like a quality piece of kit. Unfortunately getting hold of Carjacked Mike is ni' on impossible, I hear that he is helping the Seat guys out, but a quick search for his username on seatcupra.net revealed nothing?

The rear lower is only done by AAT I believe but I haven't enquired about this, I should think the front lower and the rear upper will make the most noticable difference though.

HTH

Regarding the front lower brace.... watch this space ;) - am currently looking into options for a nice reliable group buy :D

Hope its alive when my car is engineless and up on a two post lift for nice easy access! ;) :P

Also im not sure if any sort of rear brace would help anything.

being that the majority of the weight is on the front axle, and the rear suspension is of a beam type anyway... i think rear-bracing would be a waste of time unless you were gonna take interior out and cage it:)

I thought Faboka vRS had the development one on his vRS from Mike and reported significant gains?

Once my JBS one is fitted and I know exactly which one it is (1.8T FR MK4 Ibiza OMP) including part numbers I am more than happy to share this info with whoever may want it.

I know the part numbers... coz ive got one.

A) still dont know wether it fits

B) they are almost impossible to get hold of.

C) it looks like you would have to leave the undertray off to have it on the car.

which is why im saying watch this space.. hopefully should have some news before the end of the week

Sexellent :D

He posts on www.seatenthusiasts.co.uk Check out Robdon's Ko4 post. He has the rear one for the Leon. Personaly it doesn't make that much difference if any.

The front lower on the other hand makes a big difference. If neo can get a group buy on the omp one its well worth it. The weichers one needs to be slightly bent to avoid the bottom of the engine.

Right I now have 3 days to fit the Forge upper. Only had it since xmas :o

Does the OMP one clear the engine then?

Does the OMP one clear the engine then?

Still dont know yet.. theoretically it *should*

will know tomorrow

Out of curiosity, does the alloy sump guard add any structural rigidity to the car in the same way that a beefier lower front brace would???

Well theres been a slight setback in this.. couldnt get one of my suspension wishbone bolts out.. didnt want to shear it off!! :(

From the looks of it the OMP one should fit.. tho it does look a wee bit iffy.

one problem is you will have to either run the car without the undertray or cut it as the brace hangs below it.

will still keep people updated :)
