Android users - what's this symbol?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've seen a new symbol appear on the top of my phone recently and don't know what it is. The phone's an Xperia Z that I've not had long, but this symbol appeared randomly, a few days after I installed/changed the last app. I thought it might be linked to one app, but force killing it didn't remove the symbol.

Anyone able to shed any light?

It's the one to the left of the signal strength, that looks like a speedo. I doubt it's related, but I was roaming in Italy when it first came up. . .

Cheers,

:o Can I sacrifice something to escape it's clutches?!

:D

But in all seriousness its probably power saving mode or whatever app you installed telling you you've got low battery.. What app did you install?

How you finding the Z? I had it for 3 days then someone took it away from me.. seemed to root/unroot quite easily which was a pleasant change.

The power saving one (Stamina mode) is the pari of hands holding a battery.

The app was ;GPS data; (trying to check our altitude), but even with GPS off and the app killed it stays, so I'm thinking it's a red herring. . .

as mentioned, low battery mode icon. Plug yer charger in :)

Awesome, thanks!

Seems a strange way to represent low battery though IMO, but hey-ho! Thinking about it, within Stamina mode, there's an option to turn features (like Wi-Fi, data etc) off automatically when a certain battery level is reached which I only enabled recently.

Again, cheers!

How are you guys getting on with it? I absolutely love mine. Trying to get my hands on one of these docks though, they seem very difficult to get hold of at the moment!

I'm a big fan so far. I came from a rooted Xperia Arc (running at 1.6Ghz, so a bit faster than the S) which had all the Z apps like Walkman etc on it, which is what sold it to me.

Being waterproof is proving useful too, and can be quite funny to watch peoples face when washing it off. Only downsides IMO are the battery is a tad weak, the speaker is terrible and I often find myself blocking the voice speaker with my ear.

Otherwise I can't find fault. It's fast, never slows down and I love the screen! I would like a dock too, but not looked into getting one yet. Keep meaning to by some NFC tags so I can make it auto-sync to the car and stream music via bluetooth when I get in.

Hehe, my phone auto-syncs with the car already :D Its called leaving my bluetooth kit in there all the time, walking away and the phone losing signal :D automatically connects when signal is restored.

NFC Task Launcher is free. You can use the (dis)connection to a Bluetooth car kit to trigger multiple-events - no need for Tags. :)

The question is which kills battery faster if left on? NFC or bluetooth... (I would assume bluetooth otherwise it kinda makes NFC a bit of a gimmick really!)

Being really thick here, how does that nfc task launcher app know when it's time to do something without a tag?

Although it calls itself an NFC task launcher it does also support bluetooth events, it can just record the loss or gaining of signal to particular devices to launch an event.

But referring to the above question about bluetooth and NFC energy requirements. I dont recall the exact number but NFC requires just a fraction of the amount of energy bluetooth consumes.

Ah, makes sense, thanks! Shall have a look at that then.

The phone comes with Smart Connect which serves the same purpose, but only with wired connections like headphones etc.

  • 3 weeks later...

It will also use a wireless connection as a trigger too :)
