Rear Window Wiper

Featured Replies

Ok people,

You have been able to help me sort out other problems I have had so let's see how we go with this one.

I have an 06 Octavia vrs but since yesterday the rear window wiper has decided to, every so often, start to work for no reason.

Haven't yet decided what, if anything, causes it to do it and not really seen any pattern to it but did notice that two times this morning, when I started the car, it did it then, made a couple of strokes and then stopped.

If I can't solve it then may resort to pulling the fuse, at least for time being, until I can get it sorted.

So, any one else had this problem or know of it and happen to know the cause and/or solution?

V common, check out the amount of replies when you do a search dude. Mostly are for dead motors. Perhaps a connection fault on the stalk and or relay by the sounds. Done a VCDS scan?

Yes, it is a common fault, plenty of threads if you do a search. I had the same intermittant stopping fault around 6 months from new, got a new motor fitted and it has been fine since. That was under warranty of course, but the actual cost would have been around £60 or so had I been paying so not a huge outlay if you want to ring around your local dealers/indy garages for a quote.

I have the same problem from time to time.

The rear wiper just starts to work on its own without any input from myself. It just happens once in a while. I have a 54 reg Octavia Classic.

During the snow rear wiper stopped working totally. I thought after reading many posts here and other forums that I have to change the rear wiper motor but I couldn't as didn't have access to the necessary funds. Good thing is the rear motor now started working on its own and is working fine now except for the occasional unnecesary wiping.

Unfortunately, I don't have a solution for you but thought I would share my experience so that you know that somebody else is in the same boat.

Mehdi

I have done a VCDS scan but it doesn't show any faults.

I am in the same boat as lordmehdihassan in that I don't have the neccessary founds at the moment for any major outlay so that is why I am looking for help and advice as it could be some thing simple that I can do myself.

Not done a VCDS scan as have no access to it nor do I know of any one who has or can.

Will have another look for the other threads as could'nt see any when I first looked but then I only had a quick look.

Ok,

If I purchase a new motor, is it a big job to fit it myself or do I need a garage to fit if for me.

I am quite technically minded and have done small jobs like changing the alarm sounder so hopefully could do it, as am trying to save a bit of cash.

Just had mine changed under warranty on my 6month old Blackline.

Should be fairly easy to fit the motor, just removing the inside panels and then some bolts that hold the motor. The hardest thing by far was removing the wiper arm! Bought a wiper removal tool for this very job!

How do you go about removing the inside plastic panel to get at the motor?

Many thanks.
