Carbonio CAI!

Featured Replies

ITS COMING! YESSSS!

Oh, hang on.

Yeah, the Carbonio - I ordered one today, and will be with me on Wednesday. Gonna be fitting it at the same time as all the engine work as the airbox has to be removed anyway.

SO, who wants a standard airbox and the Cupra intake parts then? :P

And your actually going to attempt to cut carbon fibre?

hang on a mo.

the whole point of the carbonio is to sit down in the passenger side wing (on the bigger cars) - but theres no space on the furby.. and definately nowhere to get a decent CAI from?

It shall be adapted to get air from somewhere in the front wing/bumper area. No worries. ;)

Its the Octy TDI one, which as you say, is supposed to sit behind the wheel arch and get vented from there. Somehow, some way, this WILL get air from a similar or nearby source... Even if it involves a wee extension with tumble drier venting.

Just keep hold of the airbox tho...

CPUfreak had a dynatwist on his fmic.ed ibiza and it was actually impeding the airflow because there was no clear way to route the cold air feed. he eventually went back to the std airbox and found a few more bhp

I shall

Ultimately, its an experiment, and I can probablt sell on if I discover there's no way in hell it'll fit.

I have had an email from Allard today, post purchase, which said they've moved the top pipe on the intercooler now, to NOT impede the airflow pipe, so if I should, I can hopefully have the option of refitting the standard airbox anyway.

More than one of us can test to destruction as well, ya know. ;) :P

Jason,on a totally unrelated matter(in a thread hijack sort of way),what make/model are your wheels?Me likey.

Whens the expected completion date mate? can't wait to see it!

And what ball park bhp/torque figure are you looking at, oh and one last thing is it getting Jabba'd or CC2?

Stars Barry ( 215bhp) has the Carbino fitted under the bonnet, it sits where the old air box was. He ran the intake via 3" pipe from the original scoop, I'm sure there's a picture on one of the Club SE Knockhill threads, the pipe to the intake manifols is very short and neat, the pipe to the CAI follows the orininal air box intake route.

Hasnt he sold it and put it back to stock?

Oh really? Hmmmmm. From the piccie on awesome's website it looked like their system is designed to go down behind the battery cover. If it involves much hacksawing then I may not bother, but if I CAN reroute it to the original air intake point, then I shall.

If not, its back to PD160 cupra intake and standard box.

ballpark figure? I would like 215bhp like Star's car really, but I'm not sure it will go that high. I'll find out at Jabbasport on the 29th July, and everyone at the Stealth RR day will find out the day after. ;)

I think ultimately it depends on how good Allard's hybrid is, and from conversations to them, they say it'll pip 200 with no worries at all.... So I'm looking well forward to seeing what Mike can do with it, and oddly enough, after speaking to Mike on the phone, I think he can't wait either!:D

forgot to say completion is by end of the month.

Anyway, this is a classic thread drift. BACK ON TOPIC, PLEASE! :)

Two Barrys at Star, one the son has the yellow Fabia with 215 and increasing once he gets a new clutch, look at the subtile photos of the yellow fabia at knockhill on club SE

The other Barry RS4 has sold all the bits and the car.

I'm up on Thursday and I'll ask if I can get a photo of the BFOFMIC and CAI. Shouldn't be a problem.

Jason, any comments about Allard's product/ service?

Best wishes

John

Barry runs the Garret Hybrid, a bit cheaper from what I understand as it's an off the shelf VW development. I'll speak with him Thursday and get more info for you. The 215 is only a stopgap until he finds a new clutch.

:thumbup::D

edit: Allard have been damn good for me. They've had a LOT of money off me in the last two weeks, but I had a shiny hybrid VNT17 delivered to me promptly and securely. They've been good on the phone and on emails. I'm just waiting for the FMIC and pipework to be delivered then the engine work can take place.

Should have the JSB tweaked clutch tomorrow as well. Means the engine & box can be joined up again.;)

J-you seem to know-waht did ColG do to his car?? He jsut told me its in bits!!

Also will you be going to castle coombe re vw cup?

IIRC this is the same one that Xav has on his car... albeit in a much milder state of tune to save the clutch.

Im not entirely sure what the specs of the Allard one is, but my guess is they will both max out the same (on stock injectors) circa 220bhp.. may get a bit more but will start to affect driveability and smogability :D

Quick post to say the CUPRA intake is provisionally sold, subject to the CAI working out, etc.

John - won't be able to make it to the VW thing, I'm afraid. :( Engine likely to not be done still by that point. :(

J, check ya box ;)
