Sounds like clutch to me, but with a dmf change as well (recommended)

you're looking at a minimum of £650 to get new parts and have them fitted.

As above, sounds like clutch slip to me, the gearboxes are pretty tough on these.

If you shop around, can be had for ~ £500.

Local VAG indi quoted me £140 for labour.

Come down a bit since I had mine done then, I paid 350 for clutch and dmf and

concentric slave cylinder. (all sachs branded), paid 250 odd for fitting.
