sound quality? build quality?

Audiosources ANS-810 seems to have a good repor on the VW scene. A new version also just about to be released. It also integrates with the car i.e. air-con, reversing unlike 99% of the Chinese units.

I have one fitted and has been for more than a year now. I must admit, it is one of the best choices I have made by going for it. I got this SatNav Unit for almost 1/3rd the price of a Columbus which includes DVD, Bluetooth (both Phone and A2DP), i-Pod, SD, USB, TV (Analog) and what not! Conclusively, very pleased with it. Initially, the sound was not up to the mark, but with a little playing around with the sound settings, I'm more than happy with it. However, I have lost my A/C display settings on the Unit, but then the display was never helpful so not a real sacrifice. I do get the PDC display in a neater format now. BTW, mine is a pre-FL, a FL should retain both the PDC and Climatronic displays according to the Manufacturer.

Sounds good - what one is it ?

It's the same as the one listed above in your link, but probably an older Firmware:

I however got it directly from a Manufacturer in China.

How easy was the fitting of it? Did the instructions speak for their selves or are you good at that work anyway?

The fitting was a straight swap. Having said that, I must admit that it didn't technically work that way because the HU is designed for a Octavia FL while mine is a pre-FL. The problems I faced due to this were:

1.) Battery draining

2.) Loss of OPS on the HU

3.) Loss of Climatronics display on the HU

With a little knowledge in Electronics, I was able to sort the first 2 points, however, sorting (3) required the Climatronics Unit be upgraded to the FL version, which I didn't intend to as IMO, it is a pretty useless info displayed on the screen.

There were no instructions with the kit as there were none required. The Power Connector supplied with the Unit was a 100% fit with the stock with the right pin configuration in place. And most importantly, the dimensions were 100% right with the space provided for the HU in the car.

You can find all info with the experience in the link I have provided in my earlier post.
