I need to replacement the sliding caliper bolt on my brother-in-laws Leon because the original is threaded and beyond repair. Phoned around today and it quickly became apparent that it is a main dealer only item- imagine my shock when I ring seat to be quoted £16+ vat for one bolt!! What a rip off but I don't have time to go trudging through breakers yard. Just wanted to rant...

Guide pins are always fairly expensive. Helped a mate replace the pins on his Ford Mondeo ctdi and they were roughly the same price.

I got a set from the bay.... worked OK for the 60k miles i did on them!

Just seems a stupid price for such a small part- but it's not like you have a lot of choice!

That is absolutely ridiculous! It's not like cars these days are not expensive enough to run and maintain without being completely ripped off like this! Makes my blood boil!

Anything you buy from a main dealer with be well over priced.

IIRC, they are made from a 20Cr based alloy that resists stress cracking whilst maintaining it's surface hardness and wear resistance. That's why they are expensive. One of the guys here has a corsa - the pins for that are £15/pin. Cheap eBay pins (if you can find them) are much more likely to snap.

Where abouts are you chap I could probably make you one?
