"Rent a Ramp" establishments

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone has any experience of garage type places that rent out the ramps to the public? Any experiences good or bad? Pricing and equipment offerings?

Is it something you have used or would use?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have a Plymouth Fury to restore?

If so, be very careful....

Yeh and don't name her Christine lol

Confused?!?

Confused?!?

Read up on Stephen King ;) 'Christine'

We had a red Felicia at work that we called Christine, it mysteriously rolled into a busy road one day and had a little accident.

On topic - I've not heard of any businesses this way renting out ramp space, however I suspect that the health & safety implications would be a large consideration, insurance a problem and how would the charges rack up if the car was in bits, totally immobile and a part wasn't readily available?

Some commercial policies are recommending that you use a digital camera to show customers a problem and never let them near the ramps - not even for a quick look.

I remember reading somewhere a few years ago of a company up north launching it with a view to expanding but couldn't find anything to hand. Was really just to gauge peoples opinions as to if it was available would you use it if the price was sensible etc. Certainly I know I would....

I would love to own an old warehouse full of ramps and tools to rent out to people while I tinker with my own car lol

Basildon Council had this idea a few years ago, just one purpose built unit with 3 ramps loads of tools and an experieced motor engineer for help and advice. Ramp was £3per hour but that was 20 years ago. Most diy'ers just did thier regular servicing themselves to make use of under cover and warm facilties, I on the other rebuilt a Triumph 2000 and often used the ramps being given a big discount by the classic car loving Resident engineer, who had a easy job for the 2 or 3 years the project lasted.

In the end it was found out the Resident engineer was doing the work for the punters and being paid for it, not what the Council intended. So the Project closed and Diy motor unit converted to a Kids Nursery.
