Warranty due to end

Featured Replies

..in early June. Mostly positive but SWMBO has lost all confidence after a couple of hiccups. First the Turbo shim needed fitting as detailed in earlier posts. Car going into limp mode several times over 2/3 weeks, sorted under warranty. Then problems with coil sorted by RAC changing lead. All covered and completed nicely under warranty but I wonder where we will be out of warranty.

Bought the car from a broker, sourced by dealer in Carlisle but for all the ideas of a network which will look after you countrywide I get the feeling that dealers only want to know you if you bought from them. I mentioned elsewhere top whack price for first variable service and not even a valet.

Now need some peace of mind so seriously looking at Hyundai IX 35.....5 year recovery and warranty not to be sneezed at and I've heard good things about Hyundai dealerships.

All new Škodas can now be bought with an extended five year warranty too. And with a Yeti at least you won't see 12 other cars in a day looking exactly like the beached whale you're in yourself (the iX 35). But each to their own. :giggle:

But not much good to existing owners?

Not sure that's true any longer. Every time I venture out for 10-15 minutes I seem to see multiple Yetis - probably more so than the iX35, currently at least. Think the individuality/rarity value for the Yeti is a thing of the past now.

Yetis are getting more common, but at least they don't look like much else.

I spec the 5 year warranty on every Skoda, but our Yetis were March 12 cars and it wasn't available until a few months after ordering which was rather annoying!

Err.. I think that's what you intended

anyone had any dealing with warrantywise, thinking about this when mine runs out.

Aftermarket warranty companies are pretty much all the same.

If they avoid paying out they make a profit.

There is no incentive for them to just pay up.

It's just insurance, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, but overall most people lose because they need to cream off a reasonable profit and running costs on the average person.

" looking exactly like the beached whale you're in"......

Only if you are partially sighted.

Really ???

Had a 12plate KIA Soul 1.6crdi 126bhp , the 7 year warranty is not all it is made out to be ( check out the KIA forum ) the Yeti is a so much better animal , The Hyundia Ix35 ? beware of the 1.7 crdi , same engine as the Kia Sportage ( as said check out the KIA / Hyundia forums , sad reading ,We now have a Yeti , love it

Warranty expired March 2004. It doesn't always have to be an issue :D

Two years go by Skoda Yeti, the operation of Skoda, having this problem as scratches on the rear surface of the body while unloading items from the trunk. To solve this problem, bought a pad on the rear bumper, install, came in size as a native. Here's a link http://www.russ-arte..._one.php?id=216

If you look at sales figures for 2012 you will find the iX35 and Sprortage outsell the Yeti by a SIGNIFICANT margin. (410,000 more Whalecars (oops I mean iX35s) and 300,000 more Sportages sold than the Yeti.......)

See this thread:

If you look at sales figures for 2012 ...

That's 'World full year 2012' of course. Not in my neck of the woods. Would be interesting to see the corresponding UK figures, but I guess they're possibly not publicly available. But I'm really talking about subjective impressions - a year or two back, the Yeti genuinely was an uncommon choice and it was almost noteworthy to see another out and about. But especially over the past few months it seems to me (can't be true realistically, but just another subjective impression) they're two a penny.

(Which doesn't mean of course that they're a poor choice, but the rarity value has gone missing now.)

Of course there are more Yetis now. Goes without saying. BUT there is also exponentially more Whalecars and Sportages alas. (I'm just waiting for R999 to come tell me now what exponentially means and how wrong I am to "generalise" like this without proper UK sales figures :giggle: But then at least you and I know what subjective means.)

Pinched this from a fleet magazine:-

Since its launch in 2009 the Yeti has continued to go from strength to strength. Registrations in 2012 were up 26% on 2011 (7,334 cars).

Can't find the exact Ix35 numbers but it figures to be around 8 to 9K units based on it not getting directly mentioned in their sales literature and the top 3 models, by sales, in 2012 in the UK were 23,000(i10), 13,000(i30) and 11,000 (ix20) respectively (against total sales of 74K).

Hyundai would be starting from a higher base but the overall sales appear to be getting closer to equal in terms of "new".

Sportage is probably around the same as numbers as well i'd imagine.

As a matter of interest, I always used to use this website when checking numbers of motorbikes on the road:

I think you have to go in with your eyes open with some of the new car registrations - depending on how you look at the data, it can sometimes double count.

Edit:

That link's not great. If you go in via homepage http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk & search, you can then view combined stats, e.g.

Well there you go, full UK list for 2012:

http://bestsellingca...models-ranking/

Total sales:

Yeti: 7,334

iX35: 11,053

Sportage: 14,964

So not as huge a difference as looking at the worldwide figures indeed, but still twice as likely to see a Sportage as you are a Yeti. :giggle:

That's quite interesting.

Hyundai have the I20/IX20 as there third best selling car in 2012 and it is quoted as 11K units.

It must be pretty tight between the IX35 and I20 on that basis for them to include one and not the other.

Does the Sportage cross old and "new" sales?

I assume based on the numbers it must be their first or second best selling car (based on 65K units total in 2012).

See below. Gives a good indication on how the Sportage sales have changed over the years:
