vrs remap at 77000 is it too risky? ?

Any thoughts on whether its worth remapping the engine with 77000 on the clock or leaving as standard? Or is it safe enough to do? Car will probably be doing around 5-6000 miles a year. And serviced every 6 months.

I remember years ago Jabbasport saying the best remap they ever got on a stock car with the 1.8 20vt engine in was a Leon Cupra with 200k on the clock. Well run in!

Just bear in mind the fact that the map will put extra stress on components, so clutch and turbo need keeping an eye on.

Mine was mapped at 110k and is going strong at 165k, but it had just had a new clutch and turbo. The turbo is showing signs recently, but some Mr muscle sorted that out for now.

All depends which engine it is and what condition it is in now, not what mileage is on it.

Am on same miles mate and i have no reservations with that milage :)

Had mine mapped at 97,000 miles. Now on 101,000- no issues.

The TFSI lump is used in various tunes up to 270 bhp.

I wouldn't worry about mapping a car with 77,000. Modern engines, even petrols are barely bed in until 100,000 now.

As has been stated; the only things which may fail are the turbo and clutch (I class these as bolt on parts!). The block however is solid.

Do it and enjoy.

Search on here - cleans the turbo vanes out when they start sticking and causing limp mode.

My Octy 2 vRS TFSI is being mapped again today after being diagnosed with a faulty map being on it when I purchased the car.

Its on 101k and is still as tight as anything.. cannot wait for it to have a proper map on it rather than the half job that was on there before!

Car remapped will be considerably quicker than standard and so long as the car is in good shape mechnically id say go for it; just be prepared for some mechanical things to fail slightly more prematurely than they may have done otherwise

My vRS is on 140k miles running k04 324bhp with no issues whatsoever, car is still on its original clutch aswell

I spoke to a guy who does it and he put me off it, I am on 120000 miles. he pointed out that 30% more power is likely 30% more strain and wear too. ok on lower miles, but not mine. he suggested up to 75k is ok, beyond that the car would need to be excellent tip top condition to consider doing.

there are loads of guys on here though with it, I am sure they will have some examples of what is sensible

I know of cars with 40,000 miles on the clock, which have never seen a service. Just oil top ups if the dipstick is checked. Original oil filter etc.

I also know of cars I.e mine, which has been serviced every 3000 (oil, filter etc). Now on 100, 000 miles; I would be willing to bet my engine is in better nick than the majority of much newer, and less mileage cars.

Not saying this in a funny way, if you want to map your car mate don't be put off. In everyday driving it can be better for the engine.

mine had 74k on the clock when i got it done and have not had any problems.when you think about it how many times do you boot it?i was not really happy with the car in standard form at all but after the map its so much better,ist like night and day.i think you are missing out if you dont get it done as it turns a ok car into a good car that is much better to drive.

Looks like ive been talked into it!!! The cars only gets driven at the weekends as work van does most of the work. So now that its decided, who should I use, ive heard shark are good and also jpautotecnic, what other upgrades should I consider ie intake, exhaust please bare in mind im no boy racer and can't stand loud exhausts lol showing my age!!!

Id love to Revo my CR TDi DSG but its only 3 months old and not at all keen on affecting my warranty and having the ECU opened up. I know i'd love it when done but I think id live to regret it is anything engine or gearbox related went wrong.

If my car was older, out of warranty and running well i wouldnt hesitate regardless of the mileage.....to be fair though a manual car could probably use a clutch upgrade......passing an extra 100lb/ft (in the case of the petrol, 70/80 or so for the diesel) cant do wonders for the durablity of the standard item. Gather the DSG wet box can cope with a fair bit more punishment with the appropriate software changes but again probably reduces the clutch pack service life a fair bit.

just go for the remap mate to start with and enjoy,clutch can take it hands down,petrol that is.any

My PD140 DSG was mapped from new (2000kms) to a claimed 400nm of torque. 556,000kms later.........................original clutch pack.

Difference being your PD could be remapped by the port. The CR's need the ECU to be opened up. Warranty related that is. Plus if you look after it there is no reason why it won't last. My mk1 fabia was remapped after 6 months old and is still on the original clutch at 105k.

Anyway to the OP question, if the car is looked after and its done by a good mapper there shouldn't be an issue.
