Yellow Peril

Not good.  Bit of an advert for not undertaking and buying a car with ESP right there.

Truly an innovation that saves lives. Luckily for him, the tool in the Fiesta escaped (whatever happened to natural selection?), however it could very easily not have been the case.

I can't believe that there are people out there who insist the likes of ABS and ESP are less safe - let's face it, most drivers are idiots but some more than others, and these safety features help greatly, but not exhaustively to make up for idiots' bad driving.

I admit there are some circumstances where idiocy has little to do with the cause of an accident - i.e when a deer darts across the road about a metre from your bonnet, as happened to me last month, or maybe a tree falls in front of your path - ESP can help save lives here too.

The two people who didn't stop in that video of BossFox....... sub human IMO. Should be law like it is in many other countries.

Failure to stop at scene of an accident is an offence I believe, however like so many other laws you enforce and prosecute the ones you can.

Failure to stop if you were involved, not an onlooker...

More pics!

In the dealership this afternoon.

Ooo Iike that. Wasn't thinking if a new car but now? Especially with current 0% PCP deals

I miss my yellow mk1 Fabia VRS, this could be an economical family oriented replacement. Hmm

Economy while running in update...

First full tank used.

545 miles covered on 51.2 litres.  (Tank is supposed to be 55 litres yet my range was down to 10 miles...)

Maxi-dot guessed 50.5mpg.

Actual figure I make 48.4mpg.

Have now covered 750 miles in 10 days, including 2.5 days in the Yeti over the weekend when we went away.

(knew I should have specced nav!)

Oh, and I've clipped one of the rear alloys with no idea how I did it. :wonder:

Fortunately just a little and on the silver part.

There not bad figures, petrol engines are now so much better, noticed it driving the Audi patrols, I can get some high mpg's on a run.

It's being cleaned properly on Wednesday Mike.

PM me when we can organise collection etc...

48.4 is pretty respectable :) How much of that is motorway vs. urban roughly?

About 80% motorway, but I don't fly about.

Normally am doing between 60 and 65 mph.

I just hold onto the gears every so often to use the rev range when going from a low speed limit to a 70.

Pretty similar to me then. I just stick to 60 on the motorways, less stressful - especially when driving during rush hour .. I might have to stop having the MFD turned on Av. consumption though, it's starting to feel like playing Manic Miner as a kid: "must beat my high score!"

Blame it on the rear axle being wider than the front one!

Amazing what a nice set of wheels can do to a car! :)

AT first, I never bothered with economy, but now I usually have the Av.consumption on the MFD - every time it drops below 50MPG for the journey, I start to panic and need to try as hard as physically possible to get above 50MPG or so help me! It's like a little game, but hey, it saves you money.

The cruise control helps a bit, although maybe not best practice round town and people behind get riled up by my slow acceleration and gentle deceleration - but hey, I'm saving the monies!

:D

What I'd actually like to do is replace the useless km/h readout with the value of Av. Consump from memory 1, leaving me free to use the maxidot on media or phone ... but it doesn't seem like that would be possible. :(

:D

Aye, the maxidot isn't as erm... 'extensive' as I thought it would be in honesty.

I think you can change it to mph instead of kph, but there's not a great deal of point in that

Did an experiment this morning... came in a bit late via the dentist, so took advantage of the clear(er) motorway - 70 all the way in, trip computer showed 54MPG when parking, compared to yesterday's 59 by sticking to 60.

Interestingly, the avg was still gradually creeping up so doing 70 on a long run (to London, say) will still return some pretty decent figures I think.

Found out today one of my back wheels only had two bolts holding it on.

Seems a lowlife has pinched a few...

Rather worrying considering I've done 800 miles in the car in about 11 days including a trip to Jabbasport in Peterborough on Monday to discuss the Citigo.

It's always on my drive or in the work depot, so someone must have been playing silly burgers in the car park at Chelmsford the weekend before last when I bought my bike.

I've done 600 miles since then!

FFS! I've heard of this happening elsewhere as well, was it in one of the Goodwood threads?

Has it really got to the point where we're all going to have to start having locking wheel nuts/bolts all-round? :(

  • Author

Fair play to alloywheels dot com (Who are really Rochford Tyres) who supplied the rims and fitting kit, I phoned them up and they are sending me a set of locking bolts free of charge.

:)

Paranoia has set in ... I'm off to check mine now :D

Test drove the new Octy3 VRS estate today.

Nice car.

Surprised at the boot though, didn't look hardly any bigger than the one the Rapid had.

It is of course, but there doesn't look to be that much in it.

I specced up the Octy and it was nearly twice the price. :)

What kind of scum would do that? -it's not as if they'd even see what would have happened should you not have spotted it. There's no chance the bolts could have just worked loose is there?

Sticking my neck out here. the Octavia 3 VRS really doesn't do anything for me - the interior is not as nice as the elegance without spending a bit of cash and on paper the diesel really needs a bit more oomph to set it apart from the regular lump. I've not driven one though :giggle: The multilink rear end appeals.

If I had the money, and a house with a garage, I'd be tempted by an Octy VRS. Maybe if I get a small lottery win :giggle:

Just had a thought .... you have no DRL switch? That hole you've run the wire through is where my switch is

Well, at least the hole came in useful. ;)
