new estate

Here here - my logic precisely

I I would rather be driving around in a brand new model than a 5 year old design. Ditto Passat.

............for the length of your lease.

I have probably said enough on the subject, and "cash" prices don't affect me but... One reason why I didn't go for another A4 is because the completely new lighter B9 A4 will be out in the next year or two. I would rather be driving around in a brand new model than a 5 year old design. Ditto Passat.

Totally understand, but I'm working on the basis that the A4 might sell for more than the vRS in 3 years time.

Quite so

True - it probably will. Though, perversely, I am hoping that the A4 will have lost enough value for my sister to be able to afford it - she is still driving my ex-fleet 1999 Passat 1.9 TDi PD115 Estate, but it needs to be replaced! That was a cracking engine...

Just reading the posts and i agree- i would not pay more than 23k for a VRS when the new one comes out. I have had the hatch now for 3 years and loved it but got it for just over 18k with a few options on it as per the VAT offer.

That makes sense-a good, fast and comfortable car that undercuts Volkswagen and Audi. Is that not the whole point of Skoda!!

If the new VRS is up at £25,000 it puts it in the same price bracket as some "perceived" posher metal i for one will not be going for it.

I need to change my car in June/July and would love the new VRS but it needs to be at a reasonable price point and fighting it out with Seat and Volkswagen-NOT BMW and Audi.

Thats fair enough but a decent spec B8 Avant would still be a nicer car than a MK3 Octavia and something id rather be driving around in if I had the choice despite being a bit older.

Guys, don't forget that cash buyers can already get 12% discount on the new Octy III, I did! So comparing discounted BMW's and Audi's with Skoda list prices is not a fair comparison either!

Fair comment - leasing and buying totally different and heavily influences the decision

And I should have said, the lease prices on the BMWs are stunning - that 320ed with options wasn't that much more than the optioned Octavia - but that 30% greater list price was a bit of a killer on the BIK tax...

I do understand most point's of view in this topic, I'm moving from company car to opted out allowance this time cos my company has new policy and done a deal with leasing broker so only Ford or Vauxhall to stick with company car. I could have paid £22K, only an extra £1K over the Octy III to my spec as below to get a much higher spec'd run out pre-FL Berb just before they pulled the plug on the zero VAT deals and stopped taking new orders but in the end the new shape Octy, a change of scene, and a little more mpg won me over! Just a word of word of warning for anyone spec'ing full leather, having lived with full black leather for 4 years, I would not spec it again without the cooling and heating option which is a current option in the Berb, not sure if the cooling is included in the Octy? Might not be as much of an issue with the beige leather but with the black I find that it retains too much heat on long runs even if you don't switch on the heated element, its bearable in the winter but uncomfortable in the summer months even with the aircon on, but also might be cos I've got a little too much padding! :giggle:

a bmw 320 with same spec is pushing £36,000 a audi a6 avant about £35,000 so 26 ish sound ok to me

Gonna cost you probably 17k in depreciation over three years though, the Audi probably wont be much different may even be less.

Still if buying youve got to be able to afford to payor finance the 35k I guess.

29k or 35 really !!!!!! That's a lot

When we did the tests 320d touring vs octi it was about £150 per month more if not more! when we specced both upto me that's too much so the new octi 3 is more expensive but how much was a 320d 4 years ago new?compared to now.

I bet in % terms the bmw has gone up as much as the octi 2 or 3

I just bought an a6 sline estate 177 for 27k, it's night and day compared to the octy, plus the ride is amazingly good...gone is the harsh ride of the Slines of old.

I know someone who has just bought the SE spec and paid £24k for it brand new.

The average UK annual salary is approx £25k - to pay more than this for a car is daft IMO.

The blackline was excellent value for money, the new models do not appear to be so. The mark3 is an incremental improvement over mark2 but the prices have risen substantially.

i remember a car program long who suggesting that a sensible budget would be don't buy a car that costs more than 10% of the value of your house.

It's a good point...so much so that I'm even thinking of taking an SE with minimal options to get within company car list price target.
