Found my new Superb

Featured Replies

After a fairly short time seriously searching (about 4 weeks) I finally found my new car.

Its a Superb Combi Elegance in rosso brunello with ivory leather interior, with the 2 litre 170CR engine and DSG. Options over and above the usual spec include park assist, heated washer nozzles, auto dipping rear view mirror and wood effect trim but I`m not too sure if thats an option.

It also has a drop down DVD player fitted in the roof with a freeview TV tuner added under the front passenger seat. When I first saw it I thought it was a Skoda option but its obviously not. It turns out to be one of those cheap ones from Ebay. Having said that the picture is quite good and I`m sure it will get some use. Unfortunately the TV tuner has already caused me problems. I can`t get it to work and speaking to the previous owner he swears it worked fine, and it shows this in his Autotrader pictures. While I was playing with it and all the other buttons in the car I managed to flatten the battery over night by leaving something to do with the TV tuner turned on. This caused no end of problems with flickering needles in the dials, flashing lights in the dash, the passenger window had dropped by 2 inches, (whats that all about?) and the tailgate had popped open?? Luckily it doesn`t have an electric opening tailgate so it wasn`t wide open.

After a visit from a Skoda Tech he managed to get it going again (have to say, the service was excellent) and I charged it up over night. But spending 20 minutes on the phone and in the car with the seller the battery next morning was again dead. So after another night on charge it started up ok and I`m going to give it a blast up the motorway to give it a bit more.

By the way I still can`t get the TV tuner to work but I think I`ve narrowed it down to the fact that the remote for the DVD player is knackered and so I can`t switch to different inputs.

First impressions of the car after the drive back home from Hull are very favourable. I think the car is great in every aspect although I did find the satnav took a bit of getting used to after my Honda Accord fitted navi system but I am still playing with all the buttons and toys fitted to the car, as long as the battery holds out.

I`ll get some pictures up as soon as I can but in the meantime if anybody is after a well serviced and looked after Honda Accord i-ctdi with low miles then let me know

For whats its worth, I would junk the aftermarket TV and just watch indoors, There are so many electriaclas on cars nowadays anything extra and not OEM (for me at least) is a no no. If you want a good charge, drive with your headlights and spotlights on. You will get a better charge believe it or not.

I think I`m stuck with it now. If I take the DVD player out I`m sure I`ll be left with some holes in the roof lining. The TV tuner turned out to be a simple fix, there were some dodgy batteries in the remote, so everything is working fine now, when I can get a decent freeview signal that is.

I tend to agree with you though about car electricals, especially after seeing the way the car behaved with a flat battery. Like I said though I`m stuck with the DVD player at least.

Thanks Chan. So far I'm loving the car. The satnav is taking some getting used to, very complicated, and I'm finding the bolster on the sides of the front seats a bit intrusive on my pert little backside. In my opinion anyway.

The battery is fully charged and now I've learnt how to work most things I don't seem to be having a problem.

My car is the only Rosso/beige car I came across in my search but to be honest colour wasn't as important to me as options fitted and the fact that I was looking for an estate.

Satnav and side bolsters - ditto!
