Decat/Sports cat

Featured Replies

been looking around and am wondering what people suggest as i am relatively new to the hole playing with engines side of things

firstly i have been looking at a ebay 200cpi sports cat and down pipe but am a bit unsure about this as its probably rubbish for £219

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SEAT-LEON-1-8T-20v-STAINLESS-STEEL-200-CPI-SPORTS-CAT-PIPE-EXHAUST-DOWNPIPE-/230865918652?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35c0ae5abc

then this ebay all in one down pipe and decat

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SKODA-OCTAVIA-1-8T-TURBO-EXHAUST-DOWN-PIPE-DECAT-DP7402-/400286271892?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5d32ebc994

and then this down pipe and decat that is split

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-MK4-GTI-BORA-AUDI-A3-1-8T-3-STAINLESS-DOWNPIPE-DE-CAT-DOWN-PIPE-DECAT-/330712673427?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4d0002ec93

some people will probably say why not pay for the proper stuff (e.g. milltek) i dont have that sort of money

So what do people suggest and whats the advantages/disadvantages?

i have the sports cat and the all in one decat as well, havent fitted the cat yet but the decat is well built and fits fine, the sports cat is almost identical to look at so should be fine to,whether its any good as a cat is another question :giggle:

my decat is up for sale and your local :hi:

oh am i now... PM me a price i may be interested if it deffo turns out these sports cats are rubbish! :)

well i won it on auction for 100quid so worth a punt to me,mot isint till to june so have to wait lol

Id personally just go with the decat, as the quality of the CAT id question completely

I have one of the sports cat but not fitted yet. Quality looks good tbh.

Also you benefit passing mot if you don't have a friendly garage.

I have tried both decats in those pics. The single piece is tight and can hit the steering rack heat shield. The 2 piece is normally a 3" dia downpipe same as I have fitted atm.

Sent from my Galaxy S3.

I've a two piece 3" direnza decat eBay special off gumtree for £45 on my motor. Fits real well and makes the turbo spool up noticeably faster. Well worth fitting then just find a friendly mot tester.

havent fitted the cat yet

what is it with the only 2 people that have the sports cat have not fitted them yet! :giggle:

thanks for all the replies :)

I had my sports cat fitted, the day after I passed my MOT though so couldn't say if it will pass another one or not, I have the same sports cat that TERKIN hasnt fitted yet, made a good difference to the car having it on, and not too loud, but still made a nice improvement on the exhaust sound..

once it is on i will get it tested at work and let everyone know weather it passes or not :)

look forward to that keep my decat if it doesn't pass :giggle:

I have a blueflame sports cat and one of those sports cats in the shed and will probably fit one for MOT.

Currently enjoying the 2 piece Decat. Be interesting to see if there is any performance loss when i refit the sports cat in May for MOT. Think there is more noise from the decat for sure

How do your insurance providers feel about decats? As your all driving around in cars that WILL fail an mot and means your cars are unroad worthy surly you insurers won't cover you in a.crash?

If you want to be really cunning you could cut your old cat in half bash it all out then weld it around the decat pipe.

so it looks standard but will still pass an MOT

Ill be doing this to an eBay split peice down pipe very shortly :)

be careful i bought one of these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SKODA-OCTAVIA-1-9-TDI-STAINLESS-STEEL-EXHAUST-DECAT-DE-CAT-PIPE-1998-2004-/230817114916?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Car+Make%3ASkoda%7CModel%3AOctavia%7CCars+Type%3A1.9+TDI&hash=item35bdc5ab24

looked great, didnt fit well, and when we took it off it hadnt actually mated with the turbo outlet corectly. there was about a 10mm mismatch top and bottom, due to the gasket, which created an oval shape for the gasses to get through. also there was a nats ck between the heat shield on the stearing rack.

You won't pass MOT with that. The point is the car needs a cat to pass emissions.

totally different decat and hook up point than the 1.8T petrol . The 1.8T have 4 bolt holes and symmetrical flange

I've spoken to a good friend of mine and he assures me that yes the reading of the emmisions will be slightly higher it will still pass an mot ... Time will tell

If the car could pass the emissions test without a cat why do manufacturers fit them?

I think they are more useful on slightly tired/ worn engines as a healthy engine won't b putting out bad emissions..

Any MOT'ers on here that are in the midlands area that would pass a Octavia VRS with a decat??

nice and discreet i like it :D

it's not legal...so no one is going advertise an mot guy who will do this!
