YETI YETI YETI ... BEST BEST BEST!!

and you haven't even got one yet.

I have to say I enjoy driving my yeti more on the type of driving I do now but as an all rounder my Octavia estate was better as it had more carrying capacity and was more economical especially on long trips.

But I seldom do those and most driving for me now is on twisty A roads or in town. The Yeti's much more fun and now my son is older we don't need to fit in a buggy any more so I don't miss the boot as much as I thought I would. Horse for courses

Oh the irony :giggle:

Lets start by making it clear that I absolutely love my Yeti. Overall, it's the most enjoyable and competent car that I've ever had and the last 3 years have been a most enjoyable driving experience.

BUT, sorry folks, it has also had more attention under warranty than any car I've owned in the last 10 years.

Coolant leaks, Bi-Xenon headlamp ballasts replaced, rear wiper motor replaced, 2 driver's seat heater elements & 1 passenger seat heater element replaced, water pump replaced, alarm sounder replaced, front & rear Skoda emblems replaced twice (& they've got white worm yet again), stiff handbrake "escalator blind" removed & replaced, several dash area creaks & rattles attended to. Now you may say that some of these things are not really serious, but the car most certainly hasn't been abused (quite the opposite in fact) and none of these things should happen to a new car.

Maybe it's a Monday or Friday build, it was certainly very early in the Yeti production run and maybe later cars have had all these faults cured at source. But the initial hassle of convincing the dealer that the faults exists and then actually getting them dealt with (particularly when SKODA UK initially dispute they exist) detracts considerably from the experience of owning the car. In total, it's spent over 3 weeks in 3 years off the road at the dealers awaiting parts or having faults investigated.

Having said all that, I still think it's a fantastic car, and judging by the comments from others on here, I appear to have been unlucky.

Would I have another? Yes definitely.

Do I think Skoda is a good brand? Probably.

Are it's dealers competent? Not sure, but they are certainly pleasant and treat you in a friendly manner, I just wish they were quicker at investigating problems and actually trusted their own judgement rather than waiting for Skoda UK to admit that "known issues" exist.

It's out of warranty now. I hope that I don't discover any more gremlins!

Speedsport the golden rule with cars from any make is to NEVER buy one in the first year of manufacture. Abide by that and you won't have any of these problems. My car is a November 2010 one and has been faultless.

I hate to say it but I agree with Speedsport. My Yeti was September 2011 and it's had more attention than any other Skoda I've owned.

Let me re cap, prior to the Yeti I had an estelle, 2 favorits, a felicia and 5 octavias. The only issue I'd had before was a jammed odometer on my Estelle which happened 6 months after warranty but Skoda agreed it shouldn't have happened and fixed it free of charge. After that I had nothing other than a couple of punctures and a tail bulb failure.

The yeti has got a squeaky dash, the sunroof drains were plumbed into the footwell leading to lould and a whole interior replaced and then the aircon unit failed and had to be replaced.

Maybe I too have a Monday morning car but it's the most problematic skoda I've ever owned. On the other had the problems were resolved very quickly by West End Garage in Uphall. I certainly cannot fault the way they handled the problems. They identified the issues each time and said "we'll not mess about we'll replace the interior / the aircon".

I've not bothered with the dash to be honest as I've just got used to it.

I did the Auto Express vote to help get the Yeti this accolade.

Anyone else?

How do you "ignore" posts? I looked all round the site and couldn't find it. (Says more about my computer skills than the design of the site, I'm sure).

It's under "my settings" which you find in the drop down menu under your name top right.

Click on your profile (at top right); select 'Manage Ignore Prefs' from the menu then enter the offending member's name - Hey Presto :sun: !

All sorted. Isn't it easy when you know how?

Thanks both.

As has been suggested, it does sound like a teenager posting from his bedroom, surrounded, perhaps, by motoring magazines, but with good internet access. And, as was also mentioned, will be OK when he's passed his test and got some wheels of his own.

I totally agree with your principle Johann, but when I bought mine in April 2010, I had believed the hype re VAG's obsession with quality and assumed that as the Yeti was introduced in Europe some months before they came to the UK in 2009, "early production" issues would have been sorted by the time I bought mine in 2010. Maybe it took somewhat longer for the faults to surface in the RHD cars.

I've just realised that there is a four letter word beginning with Eff, ending in Kay, with a You and a Cee in between that needs to be inserted before the "Offnote" bit.

Add that in and it all becomes clear.

(has he got his hi-scoring Honda yet?)

The only thing with the "Ignore Prefs" is , if you are browsing the forum without signing on, his postings are still there.

When I am browsing via favourites tab, I am automatically signed in - sorted!

Think he will end up with a pimped up Skonda Ravi with a dietrol engine :giggle:

Insured with confused.com of course!

Yes good point Domhnall.

Getting a bit carried away there...

isn't this turning a bit personal folks? Ignoring someone you believe to be a troll is one thing, but constantly posting about him is rather self defeating isn't it?

Agree totally, let's just all ignore him by not responding to his posts and his replies. Otherwise he will just keep on coming and annoying us all

Great news again! Yes, I also voted, as honestly as I could. In fact the lease has nearly come to an end on this one, so another SE ordered hopefully to arrive at the end of June?

sorry to hear of your issues John. I thought I'd post as mine is an April 2010 registered 1.8tsi also. In almost exactly three years of ownership, mines had the tsb for the leaky water pump and whilst it was in for that, it had the rear badge replaced. Other than that, it's been perfect and I've certainly done more to it than ever intended by Skoda! I don't get a squeak from the interior and the sunroof has proven torrential rain proof in Central Europe! I can't say enough good things about it tbh so I find it interesting that cars apparently built with the same parts, by the same people and same robots in the same factory can vary so much. I had an AC failure on the previous Octavia VRS mk2 and nothing but a £23 engine temp. sensor go on the Octavia before that so I'd say the Yeti is still acceptable in its faults, from my experience.

The number of faults have certainly been a disappointment, though as I said, overall the car has been brilliant and I would certainly have another - not that I'm thinking of changing it at the moment.

After years of working in inner city areas where on-steet parking necessitated me owning a series of "anonymous" small hatchback cars in order to ensure said vehicle was still there at home time, the Yeti was a very welcome and most certainly not anonymous retirement present from me to me. The intention is (was) to keep it for up to 6 years or so. However, I do wonder if it will stay free of further faults for that long. Or maybe they have now all been fixed and life from now on will be bliss! Here's hoping.

Heres hoping. I reckon it just needed a little extra bedding in time and all the problems are behind you now. :)

Having owned a Yeti Elegance 1.2 TSI for nearly 3 years, I'm really impressed with this car. NOTHING wrong during the 3 yrs. I'm ready to order another car in June...you guessed it another snow monster...another 1.2 Elegance ( colour not picked at the moment)

I have had 3 Skoda's in the past / Fabia / Roomster and then the Yeti...Nothing went wrong with any off them....just fantastic!
