Not the citigo but close enough

Featured Replies

Well the start of the test drives have started, first is the UP which initially I liked but gear change from standstill is a little rough? Maybe my gear change ? The little engine copes well until a little incline, up to 50 mph its a hoot but bigger speeds leaves it wanting, the ride is a little lumpy but comfy enough, steering is lite and pointy, the design outside is a little um dated? Bit round and uninspiring, but I will give it a 6/10

I think the Citigo styling is nicer. I thought about changing from my Fabia but I must say all this talk of the gear change being " a little bit rough" does put me off. I've read pages and it seems the opinions range from Clutch issues to poor synchro fit. Hardly something you want to be having on a new car.

I love the big VW badge on the front of the VW up! but don't like the thin black lips. The front of a black up! (oops, I'll be getting into trouble for saying that!) looks OK though because the black lips blend in completely. I'm not keen on the black glass tailgate either but again it looks fine on a black up! I also prefer the non-kicked up rear, side window styling of the Citigo and the non-painted dashboard on the Skoda.

When my Citigo arrives I'll have to see how it compares to my present Aygo which also has a 1-litre, 3 cylinder engine that sings along when stirred. The offbeat engine noise reminds me of the V6 engines in my 3 litre Ford Capris many years ago and I used to love those in their day.

Just my tuppence for what it's worth.

I will be taking the mii out and last but not least the citigo but not from the crapp dealer here

You are testing all three?

I thought they were pretty much the same, styling aside.

I just decided which one i prefered the look of and drove that. :)

Yeah Richard going to try all three variants, the Mii looks the best IMO with the citigo in second, from what I got initially from the gearbox I'd not buy a UP , lets see if the other two are different if not it will be the polo or iQ , however I will take a look at the cheap Koreans as well

The gearbox is designed to be very light, I've not driven one yet that is as good as a bigger car in terms of silent operation and smoothness.

Unfortunately it may be a compromise of building a car with a kerb weight of only 850kg. As is the noise from the back tyres that filters into the cabin when it's wet on the roads.

Why not get the automatic ASG instead? I do prefer the look of the Polo.

Also on your shopping list you could try the Kia Picanto,Hyundai i10,Fiat 500 or Panda,Ford Ka or Fiesta.

How about a year old Ford Mondeo or Vauxhall Insignia. All these cars are round about or under £10 000.

I will be thinking of these when i change my car in 2014.Plus as well as the Citigo,i will try the Abarth 500,Mini One,Mazda MX5,and used BMW 3 series,Mercedes C Class, and Jaguar XF.for around £14 000. I will be busy, lol.

Wow, that's a varied bag SmartExaminer! Is your only criteria price?

No problems with the gearbox on mum's Citigo.

Well just driven it back to dealers and defo not buying the UP ! Gearbox is awful , so theoretically the other two will be the same ? My criteria is wife's car so I've no say ! The fabia is out as she hates it , I must say the citigo looks much better now I've had a look at the up and mii, the seat dealer said the 75bhp with auto box is better than manual so ill try that option in the mii and citigo but I knows the wife's not keen on trying the skoda after the cuff unfull with the skoda dealer here

I have had NO problems with the gearbox in the Citigo if that's any help.

Two UPs in my family and no gearbox problems with either. I have read of problems with gearbox on the Up Owners Club site though, hopefully now sorted. Given that it is the same gearbox in Mii and Citigo, same would apply.

Yeah that's why I won't be touching em

*Cough* Fiat 500 *Cough*

The less than perfect gear box still lives!.Seems a case of the box' is either brilliant or rubbish depending on the driving experience you have.

We had an i10 before the citigo, and there is a world of difference between the two of them. The i10 feels cheap and seems to use the thinnest metal ever.

The biggest issues for us were an over running engine when changing up through the gears ("it's a characteristic" say Hyundai). My view is less charitable.

The plastic steering wheel gave my missus excema on her palms!

Our gear change is fine, but you can't hurry it between gears. A very slight pause through the gate ensures a smooth change everytime.

Ours falls in the brilliant category.

My only disappointment is that I've only averaged over 70mpg twice!
