XL on tyres?

Featured Replies

What does the XL mean?

My guess is its for MPVs and the like and so maybe to take extra weight.

But does it mean i shouldn't buy them for the VRS?

Yup its extra load mate.

Stronger walls iirc

Would give slightly less roll too in corners too.

So could be better for handling but would be a harsher ride?

I have xl's on mine and there is no harsher ride than before on normal load tires.

As billy said extra load, as cars are getting heavier tyres need to be able to take the extra weight

I have XL Conti3s on mine. Great tyres. Had non xl before, no real difference to ride comfort.

I think that your ment to run XL's on the Octavia, you have to run them on Audis and such cars. The Octavia is a heavy car that's why they have them.

I thought it was Extra Large!

may find them slightly noisier, i certainly have in past experience

Hmm, must bear that in mind for the next set. My boot is nearly always loaded.

Thanks guys, its not easy to find non xl tyres from what i can see!

They will be 225 40 18s aswell not the standard size if that makes any difference?

I'ves asked Skoda this before, and you don't need XL tyres on the octavia. They need to be a minimum load rating of 89 though in 205/50 size.

That's what I have on mine with no issues what so ever. best to read the grip, wet and db rating on tyres now. I have toyo proxes t1s and they are fine, not loud at all imo. I have had big cars most my driving life and always had xl's, no issues at all.
