4x4 octavia R32 conversion

Featured Replies

right the time has come..........after a stage one remap i`m bored with the power and don't wanna spend on more mods with the 1.8t so i`m after info on the Mk 4 Golf R32 engine slotting under my bonnet:)

any ideas?

found a couple of units for £1.5K-£2K

has any one on here seen this beening done or who buy?

cheers

i'd say waste of time

difference in power not worth the cost involved

if you really want the 3.2 V6 just go and buy a complete R32

well if the work and cost involved is not worth it whats the limit of the 5spd box in the 4x4 good for in terms of taking more power incl the hadlex coupling?

ive seen some Vrs at 280-300bhp but don`t know if they strengthened there gear box

Mmm v6 with twin unrestrictive exhausts would sound very nice

You got a 4x4?

Or just a vrs ?

You wanna swap out a light 1.8t that you have not really pushed at all and wanna stick a heavy na slow motor in ?? Sounds like a good plan lol

I've owned an r32, a mk5, and for all i loved the engine, it sounded amazing and pulled well. You will need very, very deep pickets to go beyond 280bhp with it (forced induction is the well trodden path for good reason)

I would think you could get your 1.8t to the same power with the money it would cost to buy an r32 engine (before fitting it) snd as been said the 3.2 will be heavier than the 1.8t.

It would make a pretty interesting conversion though.

The conversion has been done before :-) but its running twin turbo setup at around 600bhp

But again so heavy up front not sure how good it will handle !!

mines a 4x4 but want more poweeerrrrr!

what would £3K in the engine get me? thats all im limiting before i may as well just buy a faster stock car lol

thanks for replying

i could just buy this:http://www.pistonhea...-330bhp/1124672 but wanna stick to four wheel drive as i live in the Scottish country

If buying that remember to knock off a few quid for those god-ugly lexus style rear lights :wall:

Look for a ready sorted car for around 3k, take the engine out, put it in yours then break it lol

Lots of things to do to make it fast

Have you got

Suspension

Bigger brakes

Blue haldex

Arbs

LSDs etc etc

Power wise stage 2 or hybrid but again without supporting mods your barking up the wrong tree !!

What spec is your car ?

a proper decent hybrid setup and a diff, with some change if you shop around.

r32 is hard to tune as said already without spending mega bucks charging it.

thanks to all the replies, keep m coming.

well every thing is standard under the hood apart from shark stage 1 remap.

because its the 4x4 model there is no off the shelf exhaust, and suspension im not worried about as a lowered car will never see my drive way as im in the country, but out of curiousness what would i need to lower mines 30mm MAX and without any thing knocking or rubbing? i know ill need the adjustable rear control arms and some KW`s of course but ARB`s and bushings???

what i want is around 300 cow powers:) under the bonnet and the drive train to take the power.

the biggest problem i have is there is no one up here in Aberdeen who i trust with VAG tuning so i will have to find some one who can do the mechanical side for me as id never have the time to do that, being stuck in Saudi doesn't help but no rolling road is another.

so some one who offers a drive in drive out service:)

cheers

The drivetrain is strong and 300bhp will be fine

But to get to 300 you will need a good few ££££ in the bank

You really haven't got the car anywhere near a performance car yet as a standard stage 1 isn't pushing it

Yeah need lots of bits to take it forward to the next level and even a well setup stage 2 will feel awesome

And blue haldex is a must

As currently you just have a heavy fwd as it only 3% drive to rear wheels perm and only 30% if it sees wheel spin on fronts so pretty rubbish

well where do i get a blue controller from? and is it just plug and play? and price?

seems to me ive bought the wrong car to be investing £££ into

pity you can just remove the clutch plate in the coupling and weld/bolt in a shaft for 50/50 torque split

i think i`ll just save up for evo9

Seems the better idea, sell up and buy an Evo/Impreza.

strange i hear loads of different opinions on these haldex couplings, wiki says it can clamp up to 100% to the rear wheels http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quattro_(four-wheel-drive_system)#Haldex

and skoda tell me it can transmit up to 70% to the rear wheels.

food for thought

+1 for evo/sti idea lol

Haldex unit can transfer close to 100% from input torque to the output shaft - Its simply down to full engagement of the clutch plates. Nothing mechanical is 100% efficient.

Blue and HPA controllers, simply put, turn the 4x4 system from a passive traction system to a pro-active 4x4 system as you'd find in a Land Rover or a Evo8+.

Different haldex controllers alter the logic used by the computer which controls a small actuator pump, which controls the main pump pressure hence how much 4x4age you have.

The Octavia has very poor open transaxle diffs though.

Without transaxle LSD's (which means new gearbox) you're not going to be able to attack corners quite like an Evo, Scooby or S4/RS4.

With them, you can give generate a few G more than an Evo

To be blunt, it starts costing some serious $ at this point.

Easier to buy off-the-shelf, given the price some very good cars have fallen too.

My advise would be to hit PistonHeads Classifieds section ;)

you hit the nail on the head, you bought the wrong car if you are looking to tune cheaply. Ask one of the other members posting here, from what i remember his stands at well over 30k to date!!

Sell it, buy an evo 6 or the like, you will have an epic car, much better for much less money and a lot less of a headache to get there. It was also designed to be a ralley car, so does its job properly unlike the octavia 4x4 which was designed as a tow car by skoda, hence the massive stock ride height and pony setup.

 yes the penny has dropped. mind u £600 for a 80K FSH one previous old lady owner 1.8t 4x4 for the winter run around did`t turn out to be that bad a buy.

i only started looking at tuning it while the bikes tucked up for winter.
