rear fog light

Featured Replies

My mot is tomorrow and when checking the car over today I noticed that there is only the rear o/s fog light is working.

Is this normal? Or should rhere be two rear fog lights?

That's as it should be.

Mine only had the one originally, the other one can be activated with VCDS.

No, only one is activated from the factory on the MkII Octavia (the offside / drivers side).

It is possible to activate the other side using VCDS so that you have two working rear foglights if desired.

Thanks, thought I had a problem, hope the tester knows this tomorrow when they test it.

I thought cars were supposed to only have one fog light, to avoid it being confused for a brake light.

Ah ha so does somebody actually know the codes to turn on both fogs now or are we still at the same stage as before; ie it can be done, it has been done, just no codes on how too?

A single video (which lets be honest wouldn't be difficult to fake if someone really wanted to) and no further information.

With the many hundreds of people trying and failing and that being the one and only "proof" it can be done - I still say it cannot until I see some better evidence.

I have both fogs enabled on my PFL.

But then again, I have a 3C8 30 bit Highline ex-Passat CECM, to get the footwell lights working correctely. Also have cornering fogs now, with slow fade dimming. On my OEM 3C0 21 bit Midline CECM it wasn't possible.

Sadly no clue as to coding, as I had a local VCDS owner hook me up.

I think it is still a total no go for FL models inc Blackline. I didn't know the Blackline was for sale across Europe, I assumed it was only for the Uk market. I shall have too keep my eyes peeled for a German one now.

I think Will is based in Germany with a UK car.

Why would someone bother to fake a video just to show both fogs can be enabled on a FL?

I think it's clear from the video it is possible, what isn't clear is if it can be done using VCDS.

Like Welsh Kai boy said.

In comments under vid a year ago bloke who posted video said

Unfortunately, it's not a matter of coding, you can't do it with VCDS. To enable both rear fog lights you have to change the EEPROM of BCM, and this is possible only with? VAS505x V18 or above (UDS is mandatory"

No idea what it means but perhaps someone on here does?

Crikey, it's taken me this long to get my head around VCDS :giggle:

  • 8 months later...

I need to change my fog light to the left as I am abroad for 6 months and had to register my car to foreign plates. I have a Face lift 2010 VRS. Just looked on my VCDS cant find anything about changing fog lights being on left or right side.

Can I not do this with VCDS?

Thanks

The dealer I tried to pay couldn't even do it.
