Hi there, I've had the same problem and just got my car after looking for 3 months. It is a second family car as my wife uses our BMW for work and picking up the kids. I cycle or use my motor bike and needed a second car. Not sure of your budget or engine choice. Mine was £1200 and I wanted a diesel which was very tight. If your budget is below £2000 do not go to any dealers as they inflate the prices to much as the cars are so sought after and their cars are generally heaps of over priced junk. Ask private sellers if they have been a taxi, a lot have with massive mileages but no service history. The best tip I can give is if you see something advertised at a reasonable price go and have a look as quick as you can. I went to look at one car 30 miles away after booking an appointment for the next day. As I arrived on the doorstep the owner had just shook hands with the person who turned up 30 mins before me. I had to pay £1100 for a '51' Octavia with 150000 miles, 6 mths mot, 4 weeks tax and a sketchy service history but it had proof of timing belt and water pump, turbo recondition, recent exhaust and mileage is verfied. So far I've done about 100 miles on 4 trips and got over 58mpg on every trip. It is very noisy It also has a tow bar, so I am looking for a small motorbike trailer for trips up to Scotland. Apart from it being old and the suspension a little tired the only problem are that the sills are dented due to speed bumps where the last owner lived.

If your looking for a petrol one, loads more about and considerably cheaper.

I live is the SE of England but come from the Highlands and know you may have problems with rust depending on which part of Scotland you live in. Do you have any friends or family you can trust in the Southern part of England who can also keep an eye out for you to get a rust free model if you are looking for an older car? post-103277-0-17219700-1368349742_thumb.jpg
