Octavia vrs 10 plate is it good?

Featured Replies

Hi all

I'm debating wether or not to get a 10 plate Octavia vrs that I have found for sale can anyone give a bit of general info, pro's, con's and basically anything that would help my decision

Thanks

What you are looking at is it... Petrol or Diesel... HB or Est... manual or DSG? you might get a bit more informative feedback...

I have had mine since new (59 plate) .. no real issues, I've only done 32k so below average mileage, I still enjoy the drive everyday although I have made a few tweaks :)

Not much I can help with, but to help those who can some more info would help. E.g. petrol or diesel, dsg or manual, hatch or estate, how many miles has it done etc.

Best of luck

10 plate will be a Facelift car.

Very good cars, pretty well built and reliability wise probably no better and no worse than a VW generally.

Got to think of it as a rebodied and stretched MK6 Golf GTD or GTi depending on the engine. Handling, ride and braking are all very competent.

The petrol TSi is quick and v flexible but not the most cost effective car to run. They are supposed to average 37-38mpg but real world, particularly if you develop a thirst for using the performance regularly you'll see plenty less.

The diesel quite frankly probably wont put such a smile on your face as the petrol its not as fast or responsive but its mid range performance is quite comparable and it will be much lighter on the pocket in terms of day to day running costs...it will return high 40s early 50s mpg if driven with care or similar figures to the best the petrol could muster if not. Its also cheaper to insure and tax than the petrol car. Its still a 170hp car so hardly to be considered as slow.

The vRS is reasonably well equipped but most toys are options and alot of cars out there are normally quite options light, though you may have got lucky with the one you are looking at. Still they all come with climate control, cruise, touchscreen 6 CD w 8 speakers and elec wins all round so hardly bad.

DSG gearbox is very good, not perfect but makes the car relaxing to drive when not in the mood and quite good fun when things get spirited. Worth noting DSG cars come with a multi function steering wheel with paddleshifts and a maxidot trip computer display as standard, the MFSW was something never officially afforwarded to the manual variants. Consequently you wont find a manual car with factory Bluetooth either unless its been retrofitted by its former keeper; BT only officially available with cars fitted with a MFSW so restricted to DSG cars only.

Sorry about that its the diesel 170bhp manual hatch

OK, I obviously can speak about the Diesel, but as for the HB, its very practical. as for Toys, if you don't know what the standard spec is, check out the Skoda website, its not changed much. I added leather, rear sensors (a must, i think)and auto wipe so check what factory options are on it...

as a 10 reg it'll either be out of warranty or close to it so ensure its been servicing has been done etc... just in case you ever need to go to Skoda for any reason.

I regularly see 55+mpg on my diesel vrs and there's ample spirited driving :)

As above make sure it's been serviced and you've done the usual checks you would on any car. Worth looking for water in the spare wheel well as the rear screen washer pipe comes off or theres been a problem with the rubber seal. octys are prone to leaking via the doors into the footwell, a common cause is the drain holes are blocked. Saw edging of the tyres can also occur so check the treads (think it's the rear inside treads that go) if it has the geometry needs sorting. As it'll be a CR engine the DPF shouldn't give you any trouble as long as you're not doing loads of short or stop start journeys.

Have a search for DMF too (dual metal flywheel) if it's high milage as these can go if it's been subject to sustained repeated full throttle at low revs-probably be ok, but expensive if it needs sorting.

All in all a great car IMO. A decent mix of performance, economy and quality at a decent price.

Hope this helps
