Diesel truck alternator - 70 or 90 amps?

Featured Replies

I'm in the process of ringing round for best price on an alternator for my diesel felly truck. I go through the usual giving them the reg number and most of the motor factors Ive rang ask if it's a 70 or 90 amp alternator I require? I have looked (as best I can!) on the current one, but there aint any writing on it as far as I can see. Any paint or sticker telling me what I want to know has long gone.

Anyone know which one I need? Surely it wont make that much difference?

i believe the diesel has a 90 amp one.

IIRC the diesel was a 70amp - the 90amp was for cars equipped with air conditioning.

a quick look on ebay shows loads of 90 amp, some 70 amp and even a 110 amp! for the diesel.

if you have aircon and other elec extra`s then it would make sense to go for the higher (90 amp) one. Also the battery will be gratefull of the charge to start that heavy lump.
