Noob to trackdays asks advice...

Featured Replies

Brunters tomorrow, format apparently "Open Pitlane"

What does that actually mean? I've been to 1 trackday with a mate and his Elise at Goodwood. Format there was queue up, 5 cars on track at once, 5 laps, join back of queue, repeat as often as was allowed on the day.

Oh, and a 2 mile straight? I've had brakes fade in normal "press-on" mode on the lanes...

It means as much that you can join the track at any given time, and can exit the track at any given time. Not sure if the marshalls are keeping track of the number of cars on the track though.

Just take it easy... drive within yours and the cars limits and it will be an enjoyable day

apparently there will be braking points marked to tell people when to brake, but theres nothing to stop you braking earlier.. also do a few laps at a time then come into the pits to let the car/brakes cool down :)

and congratulations on winning the prize

Thanks Q, Colin :)

Remember to pump your tyres up about 5psi high than normal.

Will do, John, but I'd like to know why :)

Hmmm...

Car is just over 2 years old, 27K miles and the brakes are untouched! Bit concerned that pads and fluid are probably towards the end of their natural life before something like this...

Front tyres were fairly recently changed, rears don't have much life in them. Praps would be best to rotate them once I get there...

Talk about unprepared!!!

Arrive early and get busy then :D

Your front tyres will take the most abuse, so make sure they are the ones that are 'expendable'... at the end of the day, if you don't feel comfortable driving anymore, just enjoy the atmosphere and get some passenger drives. No point in killing the car for a few hours pleasure.

If you want to change your fluid, buy some and bring it with you and I'll bring the Eezibleed....

we all reccomend Castrol superdot 4... is available from your local halfords for

2 bottles is overkill imho - it runs clear from all nipples within 1 litre let alone 2. (yes I know the arguments against this).

ok... buy 1 bottle and ill bring my half bottle if you need more :)

I'll buy the fluid, gonna quickly check pads tonight (a bit worried on that score).

Circuit looks like it'll be a brake beater more than a tyre eater...

Thx, Colin :D

I'll throw my OEM pads in the boot as well just in case (not that I _really_ want to start changing pads on the tarmac at Brunters but at least we'll have a backup).

I'd be surprised if yours were very low after 27k miles of road driving unless you've been pushing them pretty hard.

I owe you guys a pint!

it will only be hard on the brakes if your hard on them ;)

good thing is theres a 2 mile straight, and a 1 mile.. so they have plenty of time to cool

Rich @ forge said you can almost take the whole track without braking hard if you can get the lines right :)

I owe you guys a pint!

Damn... a bribe i cant refuse

Ill also have the lappy and vagcom with me :D

Ah, good - you can come out and monitor my timing for me :D

Have to hide it from the marshals though :P

Hmm, they should be ok with it?.. they let people on there almost every day for testing!

They don't like things that aren't strapped down.
