Securing a wing mirror glass

Featured Replies

Noticed this morning that my drivers side wing mirror glass was wobbly. It looks like that its been stuck with some silicone or probably some crappy glue. So before i lost it completely and have a dent in my pocket for the new glass, whats the best way to reattach it and secure it back on? Double tape or good super glue? Will it not cause issues in winter when it heats up? Thanks

You can get a replacement heated glass off ebay for under a tenner so its probably not worth fiddling with.

I agree, I bought one from ebay, fitted it in seconds and it was still fully functional when I sold the car 3 years later.

Refitted with glue 5 minute job. We'll see for how long. Thanks

If you used Araldite it will last forever. See other threads on this. I did mine (both) with Dev Con 5 minute epoxy which is almost as strong. The toughest Araldite takes at least 12 hours to set and is stronger than a soft soldered joint! But really all this job needs is the rapid set (5 minutes or so) one.

I just got home from a 340 mile round trip to Bristol, travelling for a lot of the way at H'm H'm m.p.h. Not the slightest sign of trouble from either mirror.

BTW, the TSi went like a dream, especially on that almost silent rubberised road surface - wish they had that everywhere!

But now, after about 7 hours driving, I'm temporarily knackered.

Thats what i did use. Seems great, will keep an eye on the another mirror and if it starts wobbling will get it refitted as well.
