Bye, bye Yeti . . . . . gone, but not forgotten!

Featured Replies

As you may have picked up from my signature recently (now updated) we have replaced the wife's Yeti with an Audi A6 Allroad, so thought I'd post a few pictures of the Audi.

We sold the Yeti ourselves via Autotrader and were surprised by the lack of interest. In three weeks we had one call and it was from a trader who bought it unseen. Initially it was probably priced a bit optimistically but we reduced the price and still no calls. Eventually, two days before the advert ran out we got a call and did the deal.

Net result was that we got back 74% of what we paid for the Yeti, or 65% of retail price - either way, pretty good, especially since we sold it into the trade.

Anyway here's a picture of the Yeti before she went:

And this is what has replaced her. It's an Audi A6 Allroad with the 245bhp engine and the 7-speed s-tronic (dsg) gearbox. We splashed out on a few options: xenons, dab, heated seats, sports seats, tow bar, colour DIS (like maxidot, but higher definition & colour), rear camera & privacy glass.

It has adaptive air suspension and can be switched from dynamic (high revs, firm ride) through an auto setting to a laughable comfort setting which gives it the precision of a tug boat in a force 7 gale, but smooths out potholes wonderfully!

On a somewhat spirited drive up the M5/6 the other day, we even managed 42mpg, though around town it's nearer 36/37.

Despite the new cars arrival, we all felt a touch of sadness when the Yeti departed. It's been very reliable, did everything that was asked of it (including towing a horse + horse trailer), proved fun when driven with a heavy right foot and never felt anything other than an "all you'd ever need" type of car for the rest of the time.

Anyway, here's a few pics of her replacement:

Very nice! :)

Very nice, I love the A6 Avant and think the Allroad is just a bit different. Nice choice sir!

Ive specced a few up recently - the one option id definetely want is that Bang & Olufsen audio system but it adds so much to the cost Im more likely to keep an eye on the second hand ones in the next few years. If one comes up in the right colour with that option as well as the Panoramic roof and Xenons then I could be very tempted indeed. :) Enjoy the new car and I hope it brings as much satisfaction as the Yeti did. :)

Just out of curiosity, why did you get rid of the Yeti??

The Audi looks VERY nice

Allroad looks fantastic

Not being rude, well, being very rude, dare I ask what the magical 'cost to change' figure was?

We needed more towing capacity so we could tow a horse trailer with two horses. The Audi has a 2500kg capacity which gives us a nice margin, whereas the Yeti's 2000kg limit was marginal. Obviously there are cheaper options for gaining greater towing weights (Santa Fe, Q5, X3, even the Tiguan 140 DSG is rated at 2500!), but after doing a bit of searching and test driving a Toureg and the Audi we made our minds up that the Audi was the one.

I wouldn't expect anything less of you Brimma  . We got a 21% discount on the Audi (including £2250 for taking the VW finance) so the car (with extras) came in at about £39.5K. I think the Toureg would have been about the same, but it uses quite a bit more fuel, is two groups higher on road tax and didn't drive nearly as nice, even with the optional air suspension. However, when it comes to towing, I'm sure it would have been superior (it's rated at 3500kg) but we only tow maybe a couple of times a month.

I have to say though, if we hadn't done so well out of the Yeti, we probably wouldn't have spent as much.

Wow...............I was expecting you to tell me to go forth and multiply :)

I guessed that the Audi specced up to that level would be a pretty penny, having said that it will probably go on until the end of time

Yes, it's a £6300 extra!! I have to say that the standard audio seems fine to me, though I don't listen to classical music and don't do that many long trips at a time when Radio 2, Smooth or R4 have nothing worth listening to.

The Audi options list is both long and pricy and I suspect a car fitted with the B&O would also likely to have been spec'd with other expensive options such as LED lights (£2175), exclusive Valcona leather package 2 (£8670), exclusive carpets (£2100) and even exclusive seatbelts (£1650)!! Quite a few of the cars provided to the magazines were so spec'd up that they had £25K+ of extras, which put them in RR territory - quite ridiculous.

We weren't in that league so had to be judicious when ticking the options boxes.

When you think that a reasonably specced up BMW 320d auto Touring could easily be £33K to £35K, it makes the Audi look fair value (in my mind anyway).

That is indeed a lovely upgrade and totally makes sense in terms of towing. I love the allroad Audis. And especially the A6 as it has a significant edge over the A4 in terms of the interior look and quality. And I love how that central screen goes in and out. Enjoy the new beast.
