SE Factory Rear Tint Percentage?

Featured Replies

Anyone know the tint percentage of the factory rear SE windows?

Looking to get the front two done to as close a match as possible.

Ta.

Not sure on percentage, a decent tint company will be able to match it though. Worth remembering tinting front windows any darker than factory (near enough) will be illegal, 3 points £60 fpn.

I have no idea, but it's only sunset glass so maybe 30% at a guess.

I am aware of this but thanks for posting. I'm only looking to match the rears so they aren't that dark and I shouldn't get pulled for them.

Here's the answer from those who know:

https://www.gov.uk/tinted-vehicle-window-rules

Sorry I can't find the answer to my question, "what is the factory tint percentage on SE rear windows" on there.

So it's not the answer is it. Why do people insist on posting up useless information that is of little or no relevance to the original post?

Calm down, were only pointing out the legalities regarding it. The rear tint on a SE is far too dark to be used on the front, hopefully you'll be pulled immediately before you have a accident, it's like driving round with sunglasses on at night. The police are pretty hot on it now so shouldn't take long.

Yeah; I was thinking that most motors these days other than the lowest of low rent grannymobiles have either about the maximum legal tint all round or some sort of rear "privacy glass" that is too dark to be legal forward of the B-post.

I have a slight tint on my front ones, can't really tell they are tinted. It's 30% I think on mine it's easier to drive in the evening with the low sun etc!

I only paid £20 a window so if I do get asked to remove it then no biggie.

IIRC, it's either 23% or 25% depending on the VAG model.

I am calm, I even said thanks =\

If I wanted to know the legalities (which I don't as I already know them) I would have asked for them.

Why can't people just comment an answer or not bother?

I'm not a 17 year old boy racer who's been driving for 6 months. So please don't come on here and talk to me like one.

Yea that's something similar to what I'm after Dan. Been quoted by a local chap £40 for the front two windows so will definitely be getting them done.

Well if you come on here asking questions about illegal/dangerous mods what do you expect?! :D

Please quote where I "asked questions about illegal/dangerous mods"

And the question in that quote reads:

Anyone know the tint percentage of the factory rear SE windows?

The clue is the question mark at the end. And as far as I can see, that is not a question about illegal/dangerous mods. It's a question asking for information regarding a factory installed specification.

Which means your 3 posts here are not on topic. Although the first one has a grain of helpfulness about it with regards to being able to match it.

And further more I even acknowledged your post said thanks.

I'm explaining to you why people would possibly talk to you like a "17 year old boy racer" as you put it.

Tinting your front windows too dark is not legal, nor is it safe. As previous, you dont drive round in sunglasses because you cant see anything. Thats before you've voided your insurance etc etc

Your reply to the link telling you the legalities was what got me, he wasnt posting useless information, he was giving you useful legal information.

I know it is not legal to tint your front windows as they are already tinted to max percentage possible. I know that you cannot tint anything forward of the B pillar.

But that is not what I had asked. So as informative as the post was, relative to my question it was not.

Which windows are you tinting?

None at the moment. I have other things on my to do list first.

Paint and fit my whiteline RARB.

Get some steelies so I can get my alloys refurbed.

Get my FMIC sorted.

Remap.

You'll be alright with light front window tints

most Police Officers don't have a clue, but you will have to peel them off if you ever get stopped for a VOSA check

the most difficult part will be finding a good match to your factory tints, the % of the tint film varies place to place but you mite be able to find a place that can check how much light is currently coming through your factory ones and then create some film that matches it exactly

Looks darker due to the way the light is in the sky!

If your that worried about police, the ability to drop both windows quickly is just 2 clicks away :)

Police don't seem to bother around where I live, high end cars/range rovers seem to be the worst offenders. Some tints are so dark on the front doors you can't even see the driver. Must have something to hide

They all have the tint testing meter thing round here, a lad I was out with got done a few months back at the side of the road, £60 and 3 points.

When I got my rears tinted (medium tint) I was amazed just how dark it is inside, I mean its fine in the day when its sunny but I dont know how people can drive at night/overcast/raining with front tints, unless they have the windows open all the time?! For the sake of it looking marginally better (as good as your car looks dan) I couldnt risk not only having a smash, getting done for the tints and THEN the bill coming to me when the insurance says they arnt interested.
