2006 vRS common issues

Featured Replies

Ive had my 2006 petrol vRS for 10 months now and still absolutely love it :-)

I bought the car from JcT600 in bradford,

It came with a platinum warrenty, since getting the car ive had the following common isssue sorted, all coverd by the warrenty

Air con compressor

Drivers air bag

Alarm siren

And just this week the Teves fault

Im so glad it has all been coverd by the warranty and has cost me nothing,

I was just wondering have all the major weak spots & common faults now been addressed??

PCV can play up.

DV can split on mapped cars.

The main one though is Coil Pack failure.

They can also suffer with carbon build up on valves. However, it seems to be very rare- use good quality fuel I.e 99 RON and change the oil regularly and all should be okay :)

Cars not mapped ,

I always use 99 ron fuel

Fingers crossed on the coil pack then? Are they expensive?

I can't remember the exact price of mine, I think they were about 100 quid.

I had a light stuttering for a couple of miles, then lost all power under acceleration. The EML came on and the car came to a halt running on 3 cylinders. I actually thought my engine was finished.

Good practice to use 99 RON- these engines specify a minimum of 98 RON.

The DV can split on un-mapped cars too. The symptom is usually a loss of power- car feels lethargic.

I have a 2006 vRS. Had literally no problems in my near 3 years of ownership apart from the MAF sensor coming off and the engine light coming on once after I'd filled up with cheap Asda crap as an emergency. Always run on V-Power apart from that once.

Coil packs I'd check - there was a recall for them so they might get replaced for nowt. Mine were as a precaution...

Sorry for a thread hijack but can skoda tell you if your car has had the injector recall and if it hasnt should they do it?

Injector recall was diesel only

There was a coil pack recall on the earlier VRS TFSI so definitely give a dealer a call. Mine is a 2007 and it didn't apply.

I've had the ESP fault fixed for about £250 so not the end of the world and had a hub and ABS sensor go at the same time. Sensor rings in teh hubs rot and can't be replaced separately so are a likely point of failure on the cars. LR seems to be usual culprit.

Cruise control can get funny if you have it but you just need to split the stalk and use a bit of contact cleaner, the points get gunky.

Mine is just about to turn 70k today and still runs sweet.

Steering rack!!

Steering rack!!

Have you had a rack mate? Mine still clunks over bumps but passes mot's I thought it could be a colum joint.

While im on here ill say...

Bonnet handles

Rusty sills

Peeling laquer from spoiler

Evap failure

Wind noise from door seals

ABS module failure

Fuel pump cam follower wear

Fuel pressure sensor failure

Internal door switch failure

Aircon compressor failure...

Not got one an nor will i be buying one.

Goes in on wednesday to see if it is the rack if so i'm trading it in for something grandad'ish with yeas of warranty and £30 a year to tax and 60+mpg lol.

Its had new inner track rods which didnt cure it there is still loads of play in the track rods which indicate a new steering rack.

So if it is then goodbye Octavia and a good few bits will be up for sale. :) (suspension, RARB, Bluetooth, spacers)

Haha you get to the point where you don't care what you drive, next Feb I can hand mine back and I plan to get a £200 Ford KA or Nissan Micra...I quite like those lol!

Quick update,

Car went in for MOT @ service today (£119)

They called to say it had failed on both rear shocks !

Again luckly fully covered by there platinum warranty which has 7 days left to go!

:-)

Didn't you tell them about the coil pack recall . Your car is affected

Wow thats some list of problems in 10 months, good job you had that warranty! :whew: I must be in a minority as mine is nearly 5 years old & has had one warranty repair for the boot lock & ive had to recently replace the ignition switch (£15) other than that no other faults or issues at all..........

Here is my recall thread http://www.briskoda....52387??28F7??is the Skoda number campaign you need to quote, just give your reg number and if they are originals they will change all four for free before 58 plate on any Octavia
