Haldex Oil/filter change

Had the Octavia since last Aug and it will be going for a service soon. Its now at 56k miles.

I have a fully stamped service book but this mentioned nothing about the Haldex being serviced so I thought to be

safe I would have the filters/oil done. I have spoken to the dealer who serviced it until now and they assured me that they sell allot of 4x4's and are ontop of the haldex maintenance but I thought

Local specialist who used to be the main dealer quoted £39 but when I asked about the filters they said there wasn't one. They even showed me on the computer (looked like same software as the mail skoda dealer software) that there wasn't a filter listed for the car.

I'm confused, I thought there was a filter on the pre FL car. Mine is a 2006. :think:

Present FL is haldex 2 and has a filter, FL is haldex 5 (I think) and doesn't. Service interval is also different. 40k for pre FL.

Just had my Haldex Oil change done yesterday at a Skoda main dealer, was charged £125.00, of which £23.00 was for oil, the rest was labour!! Just checked invoice, no mention of filters, just 'HIGH PERFO'.

Have ot say the car is running a lot smoother, though I did have four wheel alignment conducted at the same time.

The FL Octavia II is equipped with Haldex 4 which doesn't have a filter to change - unlike the Haldex 2 which does. £125 to change the Haldex oil sounds outrageous to me. Jabbasport's site lists a charge of £78.

So I should have a filter to change as I thought then as the car is a pre FL.

Hopefully it wont be too much extra. £125 does sound allot to me, I thought the main dealers were normally around the £90 mark?

I agree, it appears dear for what appears to the unitiated (ie me!) to be an oil change, but another Skoda dealer quoted roughly the same price.

However, as the Scout is still under warranty and in case of any future problems, I thought it best to bite the bullet and pay up!

How much?! I paid £69 + vat last month for mine and that was at the local dealer! (Useful as I have it done every 20-30k miles).

My pre-FL (2008 Scout - Haldex 2) has a filter.

It was changed together with the oil for £60 +VAT at my local Skoda dealer.

I have a 2006 4x4 and it does have a haldex filter. I bought the filter from Rainworth at Mansfield and a local indie fitted it for £40 including the oil. I can find the part number if you wish. The indie was stumped for a while because the new filter had been assembled incorrectly from new and he had to sort it out. I am quite practical and I would normally change the oil myself, but when I investigated the

operation, it involves a special tool. For £40 it was a no brainer to let the guy do it.

If you are half practical and know one end of a spanner from another you can do it yourself. You do not need the special tool to remove the filter cover.

A 24mm socket will do the trick instead.

The 'special' Haldex filter spanner is 46mm so how does a 24mm socket manage to substitute for that?

Skoda use a metal cap taking a 24mm socket vw use a plastic cap taking a 36 bi hex spanner.

DGW I always thought you knew what you were at - get a 24mm socket and give it a go, now on my fourth different haldex back end and it works every time.

My FL Octavia II is fitted with Haldex 4 hence no filter. Post up a DIY guide with photos next time you do a filter change using a 24mm socket. I think that will be a 'first' on the internet showing how to do it without using the special tool.
