A complete P155 take!

I must admit I have wasted many hours of my life going through thousands of form filling in sessions on the internet and then telephone calls to check what we were doing was correct, the amount of differing quotes for exactly the same parameters was ridiculous, Adrian Flux being the most expensive at £8k+

We are insured now and will only have to worry again next year, which will be here before we know it!

Update, we have spoken to many many insurance companies and my faith has been restored by Nationwide building society of all people, AF quoted £8K+ Nationwide for the same car £1600 for same cover and with extras like legal cover and the like.

SO, this begs the question how can a regulated industry be so different?

Because its open competition and any business is perfectly with its rights to take a different view of risk and have a different target market sector. The consumer is king but to be king you must be prepared to put in the legwork.

have you tried go compare I use it every year and change every year as don't think mines ever come down in the last 25 years

I paid £3500 on a 1.2 Corsa (third party and i was second driver) when i passed 3 years ago

Try Co Op and get one of those tracking boxes installed if it's for a young driver

I know Norwich union used to take 49% off the quote for pass plus

They have complicated maths algorithms to calculate risk based on know factors. For young drivers it is postcode and the car which are the main factors. Old Volvo Estates are the cheapest cars for young drivers, no matter what state they are in, which is ridiculous. I know it is too late now but when my lad gets to the driving age this is waht Iwll do, buy an old banger with the lowest insurance risk index no matter what it is for the first year of his driving. Doesn't matter if he likes it or not, if he wants to drive he either pays for all of it himself or do what he's told :).

Then Financial Markets performance indicators are factored (as this where they earn money). Then "how much would we like your business" factor is applied and you get your £8k premium...

Black boxes are a solution but you might end up paying through the nose if he slips somewhere...

Ok, there is an age difference but my missus had a '98 polo auto with zero no-claims cost over £1200 to insure, with one claim against her. The renewal came up at £1100 with the first years NCB but we had just bought a new Citigo. The insurance for that was under £500. I would have expected the brand new car to cost at least the same, if not more. Neither car is a rocket ship but the Citigo is ten times more fun to drive and is way cheaper to run in all areas.

What I really want to know is why all your kids have you parents

1. Ringing around for them.

2. Seems like paying for it too.

Maybe my parents were bad parents then, because I had to find my own car, buy it and insure it without them spending hours researching it for me and coughing up the dough!

Lucky kids, huh!

I did not do all the calling the around, my lad and myself did it, as for the payment, I bought his car, he paid a £1000 down on his insurance and is now paying £100 a month too!

As a parent though it is important to look after your children, the reason being that one day they will choose your nursing home,....

LOL, that's one way of looking at the whole issue James!

Thinking ahead is always a good thing to do :)

What is the lowest legel age for the children to work in UK again? ;)

LMAO

My car was given to me but owed nothing to my parents and they bought an Octy. I sold it for what I paid in fixing it. Insurance I saved up for. Was pushing a mower round the streets doing garden work starting when I was 14 then got a proper job at 16. It all helped and I don't regret a thing. When I get to the point where I have a kid who wants a car I'll help by all means but they'll have to realise how hard it is to get it. It feels so much better when it's not just given to you.
