Parking sensors on my vRS

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just noticed today(having owned it nearly 4 weeks!) that even though they beep while reverse is engaged they are not working!

Anybody any experience of this happening and it's cause??

Car has columbus HU fitted so is there anything I can do without VCDS or access to one?

Steve

Do you mean not displaying on screen, or is the beeping not getting quicker as you get closer to an object?

Both! It beeps as if to say, yep that's reverse but after that nothing. Only noticed as i have been concreting in back garden and moved my wheelie bins onto the drive only to stop about 6 inches short using my own judgement as no noise from the sensors!

Each one emits a clicking noise when working. Put car in reverse with engine running and you should be able to hear it. That way you can tell which one or more aren't working. In your case it sounds like more than one isn't which might point to a wiring fault or a faulty controller. The latter is near a known weak point in the rear washer pipe - is that working?

All this is speculation without vcds though. I suggest you find your nearest member with vcds and get it scanned. Check out the diagnostics forum for a map of members. I'm happy to help if you are in SE Wales.

Cheers Adam, it doesn't emit anything as I have heard nothing since I have had the car. As for the washer pipe, I'm positive it works fine but will check, i take it your pointing towards water ingress somewhere that causes problems?

As for this VCDS, exactly what is it and how do I get hold of it as im aware of how to use diagnostic gear and wouldn't mind having myself?

And i'm not near yourself i'm afraid

Thanks again mate

Water ingress onto the parking sensor controller is a suspicion yes. VCDS is a diagnostic cable that you use with a laptop to provide an interface to your car diagnostics but needs some care. It costs around 260 for cable and lifetime support from Ross Tech. Check out link below for official suppliers.

Awesome, just had a look and I reckon an order is going to be placed as it looks a great bit of kit!

I'll be checking what you mentioned earlier tomorrow and if no joy probably investing in that piece of kit

Cheers

Well finally found the dodgy sensor on the rear, now do these sensors all come black and I have swap the colour coded end to the new one??

The replacement will be genuine VAG

No. It will probably be grey when it arrives (primer). The Sensor then needs to be sprayed to match your car.

Cheers KBPhoto, nothing is ever simple is it! Next question is where in the chassis number or the white sticker do identify the paint code?

It's on the white sticker in the boot or log book.

It's a 4-digit code just to the right of where it says 'Paint No / Interior'.

Ask whoever is supplying it if they can spray it for you.

if you search on ebay for 7H0919275 you can get these for £23 whereas vag wanted £90, and it came black, had it fitted today, matches my black 07 plate vrs perfectly.

Cheers for the replies fellas, thebloyn- great for your motor however mine is racing blue! so blob of paint required

KBPhoto- i'll paint it myself just the code for correct match

Cheers again

With regard to this part no 7H0919275, is there a letter that follows as I've been on ebay and there are a couple of different plug angles from what I see, does that make a difference??

Gutted, tried a new sensor and it still ain't working! And whilst doing had a peek in the boot and water in spare wheel well too, not having much luck at the moment :-(

Time to invest in VCDS me thinks

You don't need VCDS to tell you that the rear wiper fluid pipe is probably the cause of the water in spare wheel well!

Have you contacted someone local to 'Earth' who has VCDS and could help you? It would be a lot cheaper...

Ha ha KBPhoto, I guessed that one! I will strip back the trim to find the joint in the rear washer pipe tomorrow but with regard to VCDS I reckon I could do with it as firstly need to sort the ongoing of issue of passenger side vents only blowing hot and now the parking sensors playing up, something tells me it may pay for itself quickly but i'll check the list to see who's near by.

Cheers

Not all VCDS owners are on the list / map for some reason. Even ones who want to be.

If you could narrow down your location a little more that might help.

I have just checked and there is a guy in my area so may wave some beer tokens and request his assistance.

As we all know I will keep using educated guessing and assumption which don't always solve things!

Update- Got diag machine on my car and parking sensor fault showed up with the sensor i knelt next to that wasn't clicking so happy days or so i thought!

Plugged new sensor in and no joy still no clicking and the 3 second beep. Got my multimeter on the plug got voltage across pins but it at least two different configurations, so i'm thinking the loom has a fault now.

Big job to get rear bumper off anyone know?

Also slightly off topic but climate fault showed-positioning motor for temp flap V158, so time to sort that also :-)

Steve

Here's the details for an estate rear bumper, I don't have any for the hatch, but I guess it's broadly similar.

Not difficult, just time consuming due to the amount of interior trim and lights that need to come off.

Getting it back isn't too hard either.
