egr valve blanking plate ?

Featured Replies

hi there, i've took the car off the road to do some maintenance which included taking the egr valve, inlet and exhaust / turbo off my 1.9 tdi to clean them .i've read that some people have blanked off the egr valve to save the crud build up in the inlet manifold, does this actually work or am i just creating more problems ? also i've read about the crank case breather being re-routed to a catch tank. is it worth all this effort or is it that my turbo is getting worn and passing too much oil ? the turbo seems ok with minimal movement on the exhaust impeller.

I have a EGR blanker plate (and disconnecting the vacuum pipework), and I went with the elephant mod route (as I was too tight to buy a catch can). Since I did this my EGR/anti-shudder assembly has remained lovely and clean, rather than looking like the back end of a tarmac lorry!

The oil you see in the pipework is from the crank case breather. You would know if your car was leaking oil through the turbo seals as it would end up with a run away condition occurring :-(

does the car still run fine after doing these mods or does it effect the air / fuel ratio's ?

It seems to run fine, although it might be better to fit a catchcan, and then ECU gets the expected qty of air from the crankcase breather.

I believe that you can adjust the duty cycle of the EGR, so that should be set as low as possible (although I haven't done this either).

I have done the egr delete and ccv mod on my tdi and it does not effect the air just makes it a lot cleaner for the engine to breath.

But after doing the ger delete you will have to get the ecu light mapped out.

Car runs fine
