Puff of smoke every time start the vrs?

Featured Replies

Is this a common thing that these cars do? It's my first diesel only recently noticed that every start get like half a second puff of smoke then it's fine doesn't smoke while driving that I have noticed.. Should I be concerned or is it just blowing out soot left in exhaust?

Just chucked some millers oil in to clear things up abit unsure if that will help will report back.

Yes it's normal.

It's more noticeable on the vRS because the exhaust doesn't point downwards.

Even diesels burn a richer fuel/air ratio when the engine is cold. The initial smoke is the excess initial fueling getting burned off on the fire up. Especially if the engine has turned over a couple of revs before firing.

Not a lot to worry about really. Cars with DPFs tend to be less noticable smokers in this respect, as the DPF catches most of the soot, so you then have to use more fuel to burn it off elsewhere/elsewhen.

Its likely automatic choke/ enrichenment, my first car had a manual choke flooded it a few times - it was an old panda so manual choke was long gone when i started to drive in late 2000 :D

In my expereince it's something Tdi engines do.

they puff when they start up, the puff when you floor it, the puff when the injectors are going. they puff off stuff using low down torque .

its what they do (but i still think, omg its puffing smoke ) lol

if your tdi doesnt smoke............................you can have more power.
