Paradise Regained!

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Two years after stupidly getting rid of my beloved 56 plate Elegance 2.0TDi, I have been tempted back by a 56 plate 2.8V6 Tip, in Black Magic with Onyx leather for very reasonable sum.

Fed up with my 40 minute commute in a VW Up!, I have decided to favour comfort, peace and quiet over economy and sense. The vehicle I am buying is a one-owner, low mileage (49k), obviously cherished car. Lots of work done by Skoda at the right intervals (belts/pumps/brakes etc) with no obvious nasty surprises looming.

I have checked all the notorious troublespots (footwells/electrics/motorised bits and pieces) and all seems honest and correct.

I would be grateful for advice on the following:

  • Tyres for standard fit alloys (225/45/17/Y) which would favour comfort/longevity, given my 'sedate' driving style and not break the bank.
  • The possible future benefit of a re-map in order to marginally improve fuel economy (versus insurance premium increase).
  • Personal recommendations of a trusted, reputable, independent Skoda specialist in Norfolk/Suffolk.

Thank you in anticipation.

Give me a wave if you see me on my fairly regular trip Watton - Ipswich via Thetford (or Fetford as it seems to be called around here..........)

We are well blessed with independents - Dave Goddard in Thetford knows his VAG stuff (and does a good chip) and Woolleys at Hingham do an excellent job (once you can fight your way through all the crap campervans on the forecourt) Neil runs an Audi A6 2.5TDi as his personal wagon.

I have Kumhos on my 17"s - seem to be a reasonable compromise on cost / wear

Barum Bravuris tyres are good value for money too. Forget about remapping a 2,8, waste of money on a naturally aspirated engine.
