Insurance write off value - vRS CR Estate

Featured Replies

Car got stolen overnight and the insurance company (Aviva) have already made us an offer.

My first thought is that it seems fair, but wondered what the "Briskoda Loss Adjusters" view is.

Car details:

Skoda Octavia vRS CR Estate. 2010 on a 10 plate. 1 owner.

36K miles, FDSH.

Extras: Metallic, Xenon's, Light assist, Maxidot, Heated seats, full leather, sunroof, rear park sensors, spare wheel, sunset glass and MDI. (I know they say extras aren't worth anything, but that lot has to add something to the value).

Anyway, I've been offered £14,000 less my excess of £350. So is that fair, or should I push for a bit more?

Can you replace it with a similar spec and condition car, for what they are offering you - if yes, then they have made you a good offer.

Sounds better than I was expecting, I'd snap their hands off :)

ditto sounds better than i thought, but contrary to bryan's advice i'd still push for more!

First offer from an insurer can always be improved upon..

I'm easily pleased :)

Insurers wrote off my aunt's Rover 25 last year after someone crashed into her. I was expecting a silly low figure and told her to turn it down. They gave her £2k for it. Told her to bite their hand off. Sometimes surprising how much they think it's worth. Other times they will still give peanuts for it.

That sounds like a great offer to me but reject it and see if you can get more out of them.

Thats a very good offer for a 2010 car. id take it.

That does sound good. So push for £15k after your excess...

Yes, sounds good

Go and find the THREE most expensive equivalent cars on autotrader.

If thy are above £14k show thm to insurer and ask thm to match it!

Stolen overnight and an offer made today?. Seems a bit quick bearing in mind it may be sitting in some car park somewhere and may be found in a few days.

I take it that it was stolen using the keys ?

I'd also say uv got a very good offer there, just had a quick check on autotrader now and there are quite a few on there for £13995 or less with less mileage than yours, worth a try to see if you can get more out of them though.

They said that they used to wait a couple of weeks but now prefer to settle straightaway as most people don't want the cars back.

Yes, they broke into the rear of the house and stole the keys. For some reason they only took one set of keys each when the spares were hung up in the same place.

They did however take the main set of keys for our Fiesta so they could move it out of the way. We have the car, but to replace the keys and recode, etc, the Ford garage has quoted us £588 :(

Home insurance or the car insurance should cover new keys and recode as it's cheaper than paying out for the car going missing

I know we all love our Skodas but to go to such lengths just to nick one? Some scarily dumb people out there!

Hope you get what you want from the insurers. Horrible knowing some piece of scum has been in your house though. Bring back the gallows...

I know they kick of the documentation process straight away these days. If your car is found though expect them to remove their offer pretty sharpish.

Accept immediately then?

Had my 08 vr estate written off recently and when speaking with the bloke doing the valuation I managed to get a few more quid out of him when mentioning the cars extras (f&r parking assist for eg) so it's alway worth a call to their premium rate number

Something nice & quick that can blend in easily. Usually such sleeper performance cars are used to commit more crimes especially theft of faster wheels.

As above, seems a good offer!

Good luck sorting everything.
