New Fabia VRS

Just tested the oil after 600miles (very hot dip, oil temp was 99degrees and I waited 5mins). Oil was in the top 3/4s of the hashed area. No oil added.

Oil temps seem a bit higher than my old vrs. Is this because the engine is bedding in?

  • Driven about 30 miles in the new VRS now and it feels great. Obvious new car tightness, but engine and gear change all felt great. The Eibach springs rode very well and there was noticeably less bod

  • Good grief, I gave mine it's first hard accelerate overtaking a car today... Nearly hit the back of the car in front it shot forward so quickly! I think I'm gonna love this car....

  • Loving this Colour combo! Showed the wife these pics to see if I could persuade her to get a new one but she wasn't having it lol!

If its a day of about 20*oC and you are just driving along at motorway speeds i would expect the oil temp to maybe be showing between 92-96/97 oC.

Car empty,

or passengers and more weight can makes a difference.

Others with CTHE engines and in your area would know better about oil temp they get showing on their cars.

I take it they have Long Life oil for Variable Servicing in and the correct amount is in.

A change of oil to something else from the factory stuff, can bring it down a degree or so on the Oil Temp gauge.

But you are not really needing to bother with that.

george

It all depends on many things...

How did you drive (obvious - on track I got mine in low 120C), is oil level low (I noticed with lower oil levels oil temps go higher), external temperature (obvious), how much load did you carry (the heavier the more work it needs to do obviously).

My oil temps did not change with miles really

Miles and oil level as above.

I was booting it quite a lot then a steady cruise at quite high speeds so not overly concerned.

Couple of things I have noticed in the first 600 miles of the car ownership:

- the aerodynamics of te car are shocking meaning you can't have the window down at even slow speeds due to wind noise.

- body roll is less with the eibachs, but the car is still pretty rubbish handling.

- don't like the Dunlops one bit.

Dunlops are good but only for road use. Very noisy on the road....

I found handling good, even on the track. Perhaps because I like compliant cars giving lots of early feedback. Didin't have any "offs" despite zero experience, OEM car and posted a respectable time of 1:35.691.

Agreed with wind noise...

I think the handling is better than it feels. Car lacks a lot of feel through the corners even though it grips ok.

What are your tyre pressures at.?

Aerodynamics might be rubbish,

but opening the windows is not the judge of that,

Even cars with the best Aerodynamics for economy will be designed to be so with the windows closed.

VW/Audi flush windows, Double, triple glassed etc. Smooth Seals.

Some happen to be OK for Aerodynamics with the Mirrors, and side window for noise and clean sides,

but i doubt that was a thought about driving with open windows.

You can fit Wind Deflectors to help with the Fabia for opening windows.

george

It All very subjective. I like it the way it is but some people might find horrible and unable to push with such setup on the track. For normal road driving is much more than adequate.

Grip is fine until you overheat the tyres, then Dunlops simply disintegrate and loos all grip . Again, will never get there for formal road driving without loosing your license, destroying somebody else's car etc.

Tyre pressures are as specified on the inside of fuel cap (can't remember what that is now).

As long as you know and they are checked,

because they obviously effect handling and are best set to the load carried.

And they change with the weather and ambient temp, so need adjusted or checked with the seasons.

(but the car being new, its pretty much the same weather as when you got it.)

Maybe useful for when winter weather is back.

(or those that never bother from one year to the next.)

250kPa front and 240kPa back

I didn't take note of my oil temps when the car was new, but used to run around 91-93 as George says. When I had my new engine about 10k ago, oil temps were in the high 90's for a few thousand miles. Now sitting around 91/92 normal motorway cruising (mpg has also risen back from 36 to 40-ish).

Now I have got rid of the Dunlops on the rear, it shows how terrible they are IMHO - compared to the new Conti SC5's at least. Lousy when cold, lousy when hot, lousy when wet and noisy. What's not to like :D Maxxis tyres seem to get a glowing thumbs up on here and at their price you could easily get that back by selling your nearly new Dunlops on ebay...thought?

It does roll around a bit, but rarely seems to give cause for concern. Thats the trade off for a comfortable driving position (for me at least), compared to the Scirocco I had before.

Just checked the oil again after 1000miles and it appears to have used some. Put in a few glugs , say maybe 100-250ml and it has taken it back up to the upper 3/4 of the hashed area.

Other notable experiences - kerbed my wheel slightly on te back :(. First time in a few years I have kerbed a wheel, but its not too bad.

Mine clicked over to 1000 miles today, maybe i should check the oil level now (and tyre pressures too!).

Always a good idea to keep an eye on both. The manual says every tank, but I think that's slightly excessive myself.

As a comparison I have has two brand new cars before. My last one was a 1.8T Polo GTI and that used a lot more oil initially than the vrs has done as it is bedding in.

Been having a bit of juddering when selecting 1st when in reverse. Maybe I'm doing it too quickly and I'm still rolling back slightly but when it engages 1st it sometimes struggles initially to drive away smoothly.

These exact same symptoms prompted my dealers to fit a new clutch pack and software update under warranty. If it gets any worse, take it straight in.

Cheers, will monitor it. Hasn't done it since I have been consciously coming to a complete stop before changing between R and D.

Mine does that, when selecting first after reversing out of a space it feels like its being driven by a learner.

Hey everyone!

Just found this thread, and it's great to see such an enthusiastic community. I just ordered my new fabia vrs, it will arrive this week. I got it in race blue with black chrome wheels and the white stitch interior. Seriously excited.

I can't find any decent pictures of the race blue/black chrome wheels combination online so will post some here if ppl are interested.

Before ordering mine I test drove a red 2011 model which went like the clappers but couldn't really say the handling was bad like grapo... Has anything changed suspension wise since the 2011 model?

Not sure if the salesman was very impressed with doing 100mph but it wasn't completely intentional... So fast!

The salesman had me convinced I was getting a good deal (the only option i have is the black chrome wheels) and I'm interested to know people's thoughts on the deal. Would anyone mind me providing figures on here?

Have a look on drivethedeal and see if he'll match that?

That's generally a good guide to what you should pay.

The dealer I went to did no problem and gave a good px price.

Thanks, I checked it out and the (cash price) amount I am paying is very close to the value provided by drivethedeal, so I'm happy. My current car is a 2000 ford focus in gold that has done 102,000 miles. I pad £1400 for it two years ago and they p/x for £400.

This will be my first new car, and my third ever car. Looking forward to it very much.

That's good, always a bad thing checking after you've done the deal, ha.

Enjoy the car, it's great fun. Mine took 12 weeks to arrive from ordering.

This is a great forum, any questions and someone usually knows the answer.

jay_booney,

welcome to the forum.

The wheels are called 'Dark Chrome'

Pictures of Race Blue cars with them in the 'vRS Register' or 'Picture review' in this section.

(these do not have Dark Pack, but you might find some on 'Google Images'.)

george

Thanks for the welcome sk4gw,

I meant dark chrome ;-) thanks for directing me to the pictures, I'll find my way around the site eventually. When I get the car (hopefully this week) I'm sure I'll have a flood of questions to ask...
