Just put in another 250ml of oil after 1600 miles. It's used about 400ml in 1600miles.

  • Driven about 30 miles in the new VRS now and it feels great. Obvious new car tightness, but engine and gear change all felt great. The Eibach springs rode very well and there was noticeably less bod

  • Good grief, I gave mine it's first hard accelerate overtaking a car today... Nearly hit the back of the car in front it shot forward so quickly! I think I'm gonna love this car....

  • Loving this Colour combo! Showed the wife these pics to see if I could persuade her to get a new one but she wasn't having it lol!

Thats fine though,

are you happy enough at that or thinking it is too much?

No I'm fine with that usage. Thought I would document it in the thread though for others to see. When checking the oil each time it has never been below half on the hashed area. At this rate it will be a usage of 250ml per 1000miles, which is completely acceptable to me.

That's fine, especially during the first few thousand miles.

No need to obsess about it and top up in small quantities.

When oil is at bottom of cross hatched area add half llitre to bring it up to top again.

I think id rather add 250ml when its half way down, than 500ml at the bottom. Would rather have near the correct amount of oil in the engine

The correct amount of oil is when it shows anywhere in the hatched area,no different to any other car.

The engine only has a 3.6 litres oil capacity

(i run it with 3.7 in, top of the cross hatch and am happy with that.)

*VAG have the exact same dipstick used in engines that are 3.9 litre oil capacity.*

You are running it with nearly less than 25% oil than capacity if you let it get to the bottom of the Hatched area with a Twincharger,

you can notice that on the Oil Temp when tramping along.

Seems pointless and a waste of Fuel and a good engine not just to run it with 3.6 litres of oil in.

(the cooling system is working harder to keep the Engine Oil down in Temperature when there is less oil.)

& Hardly

'No different from any other car', considering the few there are and the amount that have had engine problems.

I often slag Skoda

& the Owners Manual Translation and the differences from the VW OR Audi manuals for the same engines.

But to quote from Skoda & their Manual, which covers all MK2 Fabias.

.

"We recommend maintaining the oil level within the range 'A' if the engine has been operating at high loads,

for example during a lengthy motorway trip during the summer months, towing a trailer or negotiating a high mountain pass,

But not above this."

A vRS might not be towing a trailer, but it might well be worth taking their advice.

Why do you say only 3.6 l oil capacity?

My 350z has 4.6l and is 3500cc and has 300 hp.,so by your ideas that must be vastly under capacity.

Isn't it the case that excessive oil consumption with this engine may be linked to overfilling rather than the other way round?

My car has never been run low on oil and never will be,on the other hand I won't obsess about keeping it constantly topped up to the brim,no car manufacturer has ever designed engines to be only safe if used in that way.

If there is any evidence that any vRs engine has failed because it has been run slightly below maximum oil level then I'd like to hear of it.

I have run V8's for many years and understand oil capacity,

that is hardly the same thing here.Rover/Buick  V8's of old, where often suffering from overheating of coolant,

and heads warping. (V8's with 3.5,4.6,5.2 with 6.6 litres of mineral oil)

Modern ones different matter from that, designed and built to be using Synthetic oil and cooling systems coping with the power/heat transfer and cooling effectively.. Reliable and trouble free.

(Large Capacity Motor Cycles might well have 178 bhp and small oil capacity, but then they run what they need to run.)

The oil capacity slightly lower is making little difference where there is no ongoing problems.

There are Twinchargers having problems, well there were with CAVE engines,

& now with only a very few CTHE so far.

1 litre less of 5 litres is 20% in an engine that may cope well with that.

1 litre less in 3.6 litres is a different matter.

As is someone putting in 4 litres instead of only 3.6

No need to worry if you know how much oil is in and you are happy,

overfiling is a very likely problem with some of the cars.

There is no evidence of anything because none is coming from the company that build the engines and are replacing them

now when there are problems but still not publicly saying what the faults are.

What would the reason be to just go by Oil warning lights, or let the oil run lower than the Advice given from the Manufacturer?

If someone wants to top up regularly and not overfill, that seems quite sensible.

how did you run it in grapo? (just for interest) I'm up to 3,200 miles and not put any in yet....

just drove it normally.  Which normally consists of 50% economy driving and 50% thrashing it

Hi Grapo,

How are you getting on with the car now? I'm currently awaiting delivery of my car, shouldn't be long now....I must say your pictures are excellent and helped me to decide to go for Steel Grey.

Now on 3,400 miles, checked the oil (hot dip after stopping) and was right down the bottom of the hashed area. I only topped up about 800 miles ago which is dissapointing.

However checked again when it had sat for about 30 minutes (oil temp about 60degrees I think) and oil was about half way up the hashed area.

I now haven't really got a clue when the oil is low to be honest.

Have you taken delivery yet? The car is going great thanks, despite using some oil (see above). Handling is fab now I have gotten used to the eibach springs and the tyres have bedded in. Little pic from a trip to the south coast:

Grapo, that is a fine looking car, love the colour! You've also caught it at a great angle.

That looks like a super road, may I ask where on the south coast that is?

I'm currently riding around in a rapid 1.4 TSI courtesy car while my steering is corrected. The car was pulling slightly left so I thought a simple tracking correction would fix it, but the engineer who drove it said it needed a full wheel balance. Hmmm, I'm sure he knows best...

It's pett level road between winchelsea beach and pett level (near Rye).

Ok so I noticed some uneaven tyre wear on my drivers side front wheel. It's wearing away on the inside edge, you can see from the photo below that the grooves have been worn away from the edge.

I'm going to get it booked in, but I'm guessing when they put the eibachs on something wasn't realigned correctly:

image-27.jpg

they all do that... my last one (standard suspension) did, and this one does..... nature of the beast, when cornering harde the inside front will be cambered so only the inside edge of the tyre is in contact, then if you accelerate it will spin, the the XDS will brake it ect ect .......

Is it anything to be concerned about? When should I change tyres due to excessive wear on the inside edge? My car pulls a lot to the left (which I know a lot do too)

nothing to be concerned as long as its not too much wear, i found the insides were almost smooth when the wear tags were reached in the middle, thats ok (law: at least 1.6 mm of tread in the center 3/4 of the tyre all the way around) as long as they are not smooth on the inside when you still have loads of central tread left! that would be too much.....

How many miles have you done now?

TBH uneven wear is not that apparent in the picture.

I've got Eibachs and no realignment should be necessary, although it perhaps depends on how the fitting is done and what is disconnected to do the job.

Just swapped onto my winter wheels and tyres,12k miles covered.Wear is even all round and I shall do a front to back swap when I replace them in the Spring.I expect the set of tyres to last 25k,which is good IMO.

this is typical, here's a picture of one of my worn out summers (winters on at the mo!) that will need to be replaced in the spring... almost down to the wear bars in the center (I measured 2mm) and the inside (bottom edge) is "just" visible tread left..... with a few chunks out after the abuse at oulton park where I learned trail braking!

edit: these tyres were also used on my old car, and the new one was 4 wheel aligned when the eibachs were fitted....

If you look on my photo there is no tread left on the right hand edge. The grooves stop 3/4 of the way over if compared to the outside edge. Looks worse than you totally worn tyres Sharkrider. Tyres have done 6k

oh I see, its right on the edge there isn't it? my worn ones there have done about 15k...... maybe there is an issue... I always hated the dunlops though, they were made of chocolate, this is what my first track day did to them (the OE on my new car)

so I got rid, and put my maxxis tyres back on...
