Side Air Bag Locations

Featured Replies

Hi

I have just been on to Hatch Bag, who have a question about side air bags.

Where are they located in the car? Side of the seat presumably. Can anyone confirm the location for me please?

Cheers

On the Octavia elegance , of mine , they are located in the side of the front seats by windows . Reason why one should never use car seat covers with side airbags.

On side of seat on my Fabia too. Likewise on Golfs and Polos that have them fitted. I think it's fairly standard across the VAG range...

You should have a symbol, probably on the window, saying that the car is fitted with side airbags. The reason is so the firecrew know how best to get you out in the case of a severe accident without causing you more harm.

If you are unsure of the symbol, look at the windscreen, it has one in each of the bottom corners.

Its stitched onto the side of the seat cover.

the new octavia has airbags everywhere. all in the trim round the top, curtain airbags i think

Pic shows the side airbag in a Fabia vRS seat (prior to retrim).

Is this what you need?

Thanks guys.

The nice lady swears that the VRS dont have a side airbag extra?

Can someone take a pic of the stitching to go along with the photo of the module.

Thanks in advance

bryand - you recovering yours then ;)

bryand, how did you go about the new cover then? because dont the orignals have a easy tear stickh ot sumit so the aigbag can come out and go where its meant too?

Mine's got them, but they were an optional extra. If you didn't buy the car from new, and order them specifically, you should be able to tell by whether there's an dark grey oval badge saying 'airbag' (surprisingly) stitched to the side of the seat nearest the door. If you don't have airbags, seat covers will be easy-peasy!

They have agreed to put airbag inserts in there for me when i order.

The leather covers have a seam in the middle of the panel which is single-stitched (rather than double-stiched as everywhere else) and a papery sort of membrane linking the front and back of the seat cover. Should rip OK when it has to, but I don't intend to experiment to find out!
