Hi Guy's

my skoda 110 tdi 2001 has given up on cool air so i've just been to a local garage who specialize in audi/vw/seat/skoda and they looked at the aircon.when he took off the undertyray a pulley was off the aircon pump.he said it had'nt broken the insides/shaft etc of the pump but i'd need a new aircon pump as it was a complete unit.

That's got to be worth phoning a few scrappys to see if you can get one for 50 quid

They come up on Fleabay fairly often.

Assuming it's 1J0 820 803 K then the part alone is

And when you replace anything in the a/c system you must also replace the reciever dryer.

Do quite alot of them, been a problem on VAG for a long time. Dont normally get much change out of a grand.

These air compressors have an electo-magnetic clutch on the front of the pulley which, for some reason, seems to shear off and deposits itself on the undertray. Result - aircon compressor will not cut in and out as required. We had the same problem with a TDI Octavia at at our company.

Solution;

We bought a new genuine aircon compressor off ebay for

Keep an eye on it.

The fault is to do with the magnetic coupling slipping causing it to overheat. This melts the nyloc on the nut, nut spins off and dumps the end of the clutch. Problem is the heat build up in th end of the compressor causes the bearings to overheat. Couple of months later and they give up making a loud grumbling noise. This is why VAG sarted selling them complete. Also remember if you change just the clutch it must be shimmed correctly to lock up at the prescribed depth and have enough running clearance, if it dont the same thing will happen.

Make absolutely sure it is the right part number before doing so.

The 7MO part number is a VW number. The Skoda number will be different, and there are a few variations on the compressors.
